What a start !!!
I only knew Björk by name, and this is definitely not my type of music (i don’t think I’ll ever listen tl this again…).
Now, this is amazing! Although the entire album is made by human voice, every song is unique and explores the concept in a new way. The most experimental ones stop me from giving a higher note, as they make the listening experience a bit tough at times…
Favorites:
- Where is the line (one of the craziest songs I’ve heard)
- Vokuro (the Icelandic language is beatiful here and sublimed by Björk’s voice)
- Desired constellation (very hypnotic, and Björk really has a beautiful voice. The introduction of an instrumentation makes the song feel like a break in the album)
- Oceania (not the one that touched me the most, but the most impressive one: everything that is feasible with a human voice is done here)
Boring stuff all the way. I didn’t watch the videos this time because I didn’t want to be influenced, but that made the listening experience exhausting, as MJ would have been (rightfully) forgot without his showman abilities.
What’s the point of pop music without melodies?
Favorites (aka only song I like):
- Beat it (cool guitar part and finally some rythm)
I’d never heard of this group before, and yet what a group! Great classic rock, with every member playing perfectly his part, amazing solos and a (surprisingly) good sound for a live.
Favorites :
- Jailbreak (great start, directly announces what we’re about to hear: good classic rock)
- Massacre (goes a bit harder than the rest, and it’s good)
- Don’t believe a word (really cool song)
- Sha la la (crazy drums solo)
Great album: beautiful voice, rich harmonies, sensitive lyrics… nothing negative to say, apart from maybe a tiny lack of diversity…
Favorites :
- Sullen girl
- Shadowboxer (a surprising jazz sound married with beautiful lyrics and a devastating voice: already one of my favorite songs…)
- Never is a promise
Maybe the least memorable of Nick Cave’s entire discography, but still a perfect album.
Favorites:
- Get ready for love (good old punk rock to open the album, reminiscent of Cave’s earliest albums)
- Hiding all away (terrific vocal performance, sounding like a priest)
- There she goes, my beautiful world (more on the pop side, with a beautiful chorus)
- Abattoir blues (pure Nick Cave, a song only he could write)
- Breathless (a nice slow)
- Supernaturally (surprisingly fun song, with a really good rythmic section)
- O Children (what can I say? Maybe one of the best songs ever)
A long album with a gigantic variety of styles: pop, rock, grunge, cyberpunk, metal… we can recognize that every song is well written (no filler) but unfortunately some work better than other… For me, it was the pop songs that were a bit ruined by the poor voice of Billy Corgan. I think everyone can find a suitable song for them, but few will actually enjoy the entire album.
Favorites :
- Zero (very modern cyberpunk)
- Bullet with butterfly wings (Nirvana-like teenage rage)
- Galapogos (beautiful pop song with rich harmonies)
- Thru the eyes of Ruby (starts slow right after the most metal song of the album, but then builds up into an epic pop rock song)
Nice classic rock album, nothing really original here. I don’t dance but if I did this would be good.
Favorites :
- Rockin’ around (with you)
- Fooled again (I don’t like it)
- American girl
Great discovery, in the spirit of The Cure’s 80s albums, with a great sound and sense of rhythm.
Favorites:
- Seagull (hooked me from the first second)
- Kaleidoscope (the most melodic one, nice vocals)
- Dreams burn down (sounds very hypnotic thanks to the slower tempo)
I’m very disappointed by this album, which is of course pleasant but lacks interest and didn’t really catch my attention…
Favorites:
- Motherless children (the best song of the album, very fun jazz)
- I shot the sheriff (the classic!)
A classic, with an entirely deserved reputation. I can’t even choose highlights because the entire album is mythic…
Pretty forgettable pop-rock album, nothing really interesting about it. It coule have been a good album from the 80s but it’s two decades late…
Favorites :
- Zuton fever (nice riff)
- Havana gang brawl
Even though this isn’t the quintessential Beatles album, every song in here made me want to sing along, even when I heard it for the first time. However, I’d say it’s not as good as other albums in the same spirit (anything by the Kinks)…
Favorites:
- It won’t be long
- All my loving
- Hold me tight
