This was an album I had already heard numerous times before starting this list of 1001 albums, so I knew I was in for a good listening experience. Not sure there's much I can say about this album that hasn't already been said. It's clear to see how this is the album that kicked off Bowies album. It's really only an album he could create. Not sure where we can go from here as this was the first album of all 1001 that I pulled. Strong start.
Day 2 - Wasn't sure what to expect with this one. I had obviously heard (and love) Sledgehammer, and was hoping the rest of the album would be similar to that track. To my disappointment, it isn't. While I can apricate the album for what it is, with its good production and influences from other genre's. the rest of the album just doesn't bring the same energy. I can understand why people would enjoy the album as a whole but the rest of it isn't really for me.
Day 3 - Was pleasantly surprised with this one, I never hear this album discussed when it comes to Pixies discography, the spotlight is typically given to Doolittle and Surfer Rosa, because of that I didn't have the highest expectations going into this one. I enjoyed my first listen of this album, it perfectly balanced sounding like Pixies earlier works, and trying something new. It's clear to see that this album would help become a major inspiration of the grunge sound of the 90's.
Day 4 - having one of my favorite albums chosen was a treat, despite only listening to it in full a week ago, i was glad to jump back into it again. I tried going into this listen with an open mind, and was glad i did.
I typically don't care for Moonchild, but got more enjoyment out of it this time round. Every other track is incredible too.
Near perfect prog rock album
Day 5- Wasn't a huge fan of this album, i can understand the appeal but there was not much for me to grasp onto this musically or lyrically.
Pleasantly surprised by this album, i didn't enjoy born in the USA, so didn't have high hopes for this.
I enjoyed this album a lot more, Springsteen's stripped back approach was a nice change of pace, and I enjoyed the theme of Morality that was laced throughout this album.
Just sounded like a average rock record, liked a few tracks but nothing really stood out to me.
Was interesting listening to the Bee Gees before the re-invention of their sound. The album should've stuck to the original idea of being a concept album of a lost ship. Interesting idea
Interesting album, each track its own vibe which I apricated. Overall preferred side one, but side two was good too.
Enjoyed this album. Went into it expecting it to be quite depressing, but wasn't really that vibe. I knew i enjoyed sour times and glory box going into this album so am glad i came out of the album with a few more tracks.
Fun album with a good message. Enjoyed lots of tracks off this one, i enjoyed the jazz/pop fusion.
I enjoyed it, stronger first side, but overall enjoyable. Clear to see why Pulp are in the conversation for big britpop names. Will probably listen to more albums
Decent production on this album, not exactly my thing but i can see why someone would enjoy it
I liked the Jazz influences in this album, very weird, very fun
Quite easy listening, enjoyed this one.
Decent vibe, not really my sort of thing though.
Tina is trying too hard.
Pack it in Tina.
Plus, the absolute worst cover song ive heard in 'Help!' so annoyed that i couldn't skip it.
Didnt think i was going to enjoy this album, due to the overplayed, manufactured nature of the singles, the deep cuts were surprisingly more enjoyable.
Fun album, Glad it was recommended as i've wanted to get to it for a while. Clear to see the inspiration for awaken my love, would've been interested to listen to this first
Good album need to listen to more sonic youth
Interesting listen. I am enjoying triphop at the moment. It was different with the heavy industrial sounds.
Fun album, I apricated the range of styles
This album may be the reason of the re-introduction of the rock scene in the 2000's. It's clear to see how so many albums were inspired by this one. Well done Julian
I enjoyed this listen, considering I had never heard of this album, I didn't know what to expect but was very surprised. good vibes
Great vibe, need to listen to more Curtis Mayfield
This was the first album that i decided to look at the reviews before listening. It seemed very divisive so wasn't sure what to expect, however, going it to it, I knew people that love it LOVE it, others weren't so fussed. I enjoyed the album as a whole, with more variation between tracks then i expected, i think the final track goes on a little too long with the ambient outro, which possibly left a sour taste in peoples mouths (?).
What a fun album.
It was nice to listen to an album where I had a knowledge of some tracks but discovered new ones.
What a great album, i loved the angsty alt sound that this album had. Can't believe Fiona Apple is not in the conversation more, especially with her songwriting skills. Will definitely be listening to her more
Enjoyable album, good bit of versatility, obvious stand outs were beetlebum and song 2, there's a good reason they're the most well known.
Enjoyable album, I liked being able to see all the different influences come together for this sound. The tracks started to amalgamate towards the end but i enjoyed the final two tracks a lot so that,s okay
