Not my preferred listening material - second half of album was more interesting to listen to than first half though. First half went a bit 'background listening' but "Flower" was my favourite track.
Excellent album - always worth another listen. 17 tracks meant that you got real value for money back in the day where you had to pay for it and all of them are superb. "Breaking The Girl" was a track I had forgotten and one that is arguably the best on the album for me.
Listening to this again brought the whole movie flooding back into my mind - tbh the two go perfectly together and the album makes more sense. THE rock opera/musical that sets the standards need to reach - a very enjoyable listen. "Pinball Wizard" is the 'obvious' song from the album but "Go To The Mirror!" was always my fav.
Before I listened to this, "Move On Up" was really the only track from Curtis Mayfield that I knew. Unfortunately "Superfly" has not added anything that I would regularly listen to - not a bad album at all but a one-listen run through.
I realised quickly why I never listen to Coldplay - everything is SO depressing! Only "Trouble" lifts me slightly but I won't be listening to this again.
"Common People" and "Disco 2000" are the obvious draws for this album but I enjoyed the lyrics of a lot of the songs on this album, "Underwear" being a highlight. One to listen to again.
This reminded me why I never listen to pure jazz
8 albums in and randomly been given two pure jazz ones, a genre that I'm not a fan of. At least this one is piano based and acts like 'restaurant music' but still something I will never listen to again!
Spookily the second Curtis Mayfield to be listed within 6 albums! Prefer this to 'Superfly', this is a more mellow listen and the tracks flow better. I might even listen again - "So In Love" the obvious stand out but also liked "Blue Monday People"
One to listen to again and again - starts off with one of Dylan's finest (Blowin') and just keeps going through to my fav of Hard Rain. So incredibly well written that it could be taken by Bryan Ferry and made into a pop classic. Girl From The North Country is another special track - 5 stars are not enough for this album!
My previous experience of Arcade Fire was "We Used To Wait", connected to the HTML5 experiment with Google, so this was an interesting starting point for them. An enjoyable album overall, particularly the tracks with titles about cars! I will have a listen to more of their back catalogue because of "Neon Bible"
To be honest, rap and hip-hop aren't a genre I listen to at all. So listening to an album where there are more swear words than not is a new experience! The lyrics had no impact on me at all but the music is superb - if there is an instrumental version of this, I'd be all over it
Personally my favourite synth-pop album ever. Maid Of Orleans is one of my favourite tracks ever and would be on an 'ultimate ever playlist' if I had such a thing. One to listen to over and over from my teens to my late 50s.
Listening to a whole hour of heavy metal at once really does my head in! My ears started twitching towards the end
Inoffensive, album just passed me by - at least they evolved into a band I would listen to
Imagine being old enough to experience this being released and how it changed the music of the time, along with how bands interacted with the media. I am old enough and this is an album that must be listened to along with an idea of what was happening in the UK at the time - the definitive punk album for me. Always a delight to listen to it again.
Very pleasant background music if you want to concentrate on someone or something else. Not offensive but not memorable either.
Incredible album, not just the obvious ones. The album is as old as me and only truly perfect albums hold up that long! Worthy of being on the 1001 list forever
A very enjoyable album, good to hear everything other than the obvious Samba Pa Ti and Black Magic Woman. Something I would listen to again.
This is when The Cure truly grabbed me back n the day - superb album, moody as hell and quite obviously goth rock at its finest.
Felt as though you had to be there and then this would have been a 5. I just didn't get the atmosphere through this live album
Only remember hearing "Perfect Day" from them but this is a great example of early punk and I'd listen to it again. It has the advantage of lots of powerful tracks in a short space of time!
All a bit before my time but I loved the guitar work on this - I would listen again, particularly to the title track
Very mellow - all very pleasant. An album to have on as mood music
First time listener to any of this artist's material - very impressed with the content and vocals. I'll now dip into the rest of FKA's material. Hint of Tori Amos in there too.
