1001 Albums Summary

When you wake up with me, I'll be your glass of water? What kind of lyric is that? I don't know, I couldn't get into this one. Felt like mediocre dad rock to me. When you're dealt 1001, they can't all be winners, I suppose.

Gonna start calling people Dirty Old Egg-Suckin Dogs. Johnny Cash has got soul, dammit, and I love the sentiment behind this album.

First listen through of this album, and I was a big fan. I had only ever listened to her Blue album, but allegedly, this one was more popular at the time. Loved Raise on Robbery, Court & Spark, and Free Man in Paris. The Carole King influence on this album is very prominent.

This album gets a three from me simply because it’s not something I’d ever return to. That said, I’d be remiss not to acknowledge its cultural significance within hip-hop history. The number of recognizable samples alone makes its influence obvious. The provocative lyrics are always a bit jarring to me when it comes to ’90s rap, but I understand they were very much a product of the era. With the war on drugs looming, gangsta rap became an expression of the oppression communities were facing and a reflection of how artists were coping at the time. I wouldn’t say the album has aged particularly well, but it undeniably belongs to a moment when its lyrics gave voice to a historically silenced community. The Dr. Dre x Snoop collab tracks were a highlight for me.

A fun album. Difficult to find on streaming. Probably would not revisit as I like other funk sounds more

Not my favorite Talking Heads album, but one I had not listened to. David Byrne is kind of a creative genius, and I love the weird melodies and synth combos he comes up with.

First minute of this album, and I see undoubtedly a Cameron Winter inspiration. An album and a band I've never heard of yet an album I happy to now be privy to. The saxophone and exciting instrumentation on each piece, Peter's whiny voice, and the playful vocal harmonization keep you locked in.
