top 3:
- don’t give up (ft. kate bush)
- mercy street
- in your eyes
an album that is very hard to pick a top 3 for, the only songs i didn’t vibe with as heavily were ‘we do what we’re told’ and ‘this is the picture’ not that they’re bad songs but the other songs on the album overshadowed them.
will probably come back to this album at some point when i have more time and maybe my rating will change but i didn’t really feel grabbed enough by it to enjoy such a long project. it definitely had parts i really enjoyed but i felt like the length just made me zone out a lot
the vocals on this album are so good i keep coming back to it already, definitely an album im happy to have been introduced to
top 3:
- cry to me
- just out of reach (of my two empty arms)
- he’ll have to go
enjoyed parts but i feel like if you took blitzkrieg bop and beat on the brat away its just … ok
top 3:
- blitzkrieg bop
- beat on the brat
- i wanna be your boyfriend*
*only if you exclude the constant use of the phrase little girl which i just truly hate every time its used in songs in a romantic or sexual context its just really creepy
top 3:
- sound and vision
- subterraneans
- breaking glass
I enjoyed this album and think the instrumental tracks were beautiful but maybe slightly too many in a row for me personally.
I don’t know if it’s an album I’d come back to often except for specific tracks but it was definitely worth listening to.
top 3:
- my best friends girl
- just what i needed
- bye bye love
top 3:
- all in love is fair
- living in the city
- he’s misstra know it all
potentially one of my favourite albums i’ve ever heard just … wow
yeah this really wasn’t for me, if i had to pick a favourite it would be dracula mountain but my actual favourite part was when it was finished i fear
top 3:
- cupid come
- (when you wake) you’re still in a dream
- soft as snow (but warm inside)
Unfortunately I wanted to like this more than I do. Separately all the elements are good but in some songs it just feels like something is missing
really not thrilled about the idea of listening to this album but decided to get through it for the actual talented artists involved but fuck you phil spector i hope you rot you piece of shit
i really love some of the vocals on here (especially darlene love) but yeah its christmas music, it has its place but its kind of an odd thing to rank because its purpose is so specific. as a christmas album its really great but if i’m ranking it like i would a normal album then its just fine so going above or below a 3 feels wrong in a way i can’t explain
top 3:
- christmas (baby please come home) (darlene love)
- winter wonderland (darlene love)
- sleigh ride (the ronettes)
top 3:
- mrs. robinson
- america
- punky’s dilemma
i always find paul simons writing so charming and this album is no exception the whole thing is just so enjoyable the harmonies, the production, the overall feeling of whimsy, i love it so much
top 3:
- powderfinger
- thrasher
- pocahontas
top 3:
- mr siegal
- downtown
- heartattack and vine
really loved the blues bar vibes of the album and the instrumentals were so so good. i’m not always 100% sold on waits’s voice, i think i enjoy it more in songs with more going on in the background like downtown and mr siegal rather than songs where the vocals are the main focus
