Gorillaz
Didn't like it back then; loathe and detest it now.
Unimaginative, tedious, pretentious "music" for those who hate music. Each track broke my heart a little more than the last.
There's a line in 'Double Bass' that says "All of which makes me anxious, at times unbearably so" - quite possibly the only thing Albarn gets right in 1 hour 4 minutes.
Quite telling that the the only two tracks that are even slightly listenable are both remixes; not sure much more needs to be said.
Gorillaz have created something that's the absolute antithesis of everything good music is. There's no beauty here, no emotion, no skill, no story, no nostalgia, no fun. Music doesn't always have to be all of these things but it does have to be SOMETHING and there's not a track on this album that is. Everything about this is diametrically opposed to what good music is.
I know there's next to no chance Albarn would read this but in case you somehow stumble across this review; I'd just like to personally say Damon, you should be utterly ashamed of yourself for this.
This is album 1 of 1089 and I'm absolutely bereft! What a way to start the journey.
