White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Dec 17 2025

Ok album, made better by the context in which it was released. Several good songs but mostly simple stuff.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Dec 18 2025

Highs are fantastic, but lows as well. More African dream pop in the middle than I expected.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Dec 22 2025

Pre-pop hip hop. Nice blend of what was happening at the time, skits, samples, and rhymes, but doesn't rise to the level of Peoples Instinctive Travels, released the following year.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Dec 23 2025

It's fine. It's a good metal album, but doesn't really stand out to me. Cover art is great, though.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Dec 24 2025

Best selling for a reason. Michael and Quincy master pop, endless guest stars (mccartney, van Halen, price) and even the 80s elements that should be cheesy somehow work. Lyrics are silly though.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Dec 25 2025

Disco funk is odd to begin with, and while the album starts strong, it really drags at the end. Repetitive songs should not be 7 minutes long.

Dec 26 2025

I just don't see the appeal. Like yeah, he's added some interesting percussion to make old standards fresh, but it's still mostly straight ahead delivery of trite Christmas songs with so-so vocals.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Dec 27 2025

Innovative, cool sounds and some songs I really like, but at times it feels unfinished and by the end the grinding distortion wears you down.

S&M by Metallica
Dec 28 2025

Cool alternate take on the Metallica catalog. I generally prefer the studio versions but there's some interesting stuff going on here.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Dec 29 2025

The album where they turned the corner into a great band. Probably my most frequent Beatles listen.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Dec 30 2025

Just a smooth, calm album that does what it should do. Great opening track.

London Calling by The Clash
Dec 31 2025

This album is weirder than I remembered. Wide variety of styles and instrumental sounds. There are a few missteps (surf rock??) but a run of bangers and just great inventiveness.

The Libertines by The Libertines
Jan 01 2026

Punk pop with a touch of glam. It's fine but not standout special. Nothing I would put on a playlist except maybe the last track.

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Jan 02 2026

A 50s pop base, but with some early psychedelic elements and a splash of pet sounds. More complex than I expected.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Jan 03 2026

These guys are just better than everyone else. This album in particular is better than its reputation - I prefer it to In Rainbows.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Jan 05 2026

It's a good album of jazz standards, I prefer others like Etta James but Sarah is good. She forgets the lyrics on more than one song, and I don't like a couple of her adaptations like on honeysuckle rose, but she comes across as charming working around the difficulties which gives the album some life.

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Jan 07 2026

Starts stronger than it finishes, but not to the level of contemporary Massive Attack et al.

Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Jan 08 2026

Not my style of country/folk but the execution is good. The highs aren't high enough to make it a great album.

I’m a Lonesome Fugitive by Merle Haggard
Jan 09 2026

Just bland background music, presumably for people who weren't ready for contemporaries like Chuck Berry and Little Richard.

Kilimanjaro by The Teardrop Explodes
Jan 11 2026

80s britpop. Sounds like the rest of it.

Be by Common
Jan 12 2026
Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jan 13 2026
The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Jan 14 2026

I really want to like Bruce Springsteen - he seems so cool! His band seems conceptually great! But these songs are so plain and repetitive.

Remedy by Basement Jaxx
Jan 18 2026
Jan 20 2026

I remembered this being a more complete album. Some great original stuff but for me, not a listen straight through album.
