Not really my type of music.
Song #1: Too repetitive.
Song #2: A classic, but I prefer other artists’ interpretations.
Song #3: Nothing particularly interesting stands out.
Song #4: Sounds the same from start to finish and is far too long.
Song #5: Also not very interesting, though it feels slightly better than the previous tracks.
Song #6: Possibly the most repetitive song on the album—I don’t think I can hear “natty dread” one more time.
Songs #7–10: Same vibe as the rest of the album.
Overall: 3/10
There’s nothing particularly compelling about this album. While listening, it felt like every song blended into the next, with very little variation throughout. The repetition is so heavy that the album could easily be cut in half without losing much. It’s not that the album is bad—it just didn’t resonate with me at all. That said, I’ll admit I didn’t pay close attention to the lyrics, which may have affected my experience.
Song #1: Feels overly happy and very 90s, almost to a fault. There’s little to no variation throughout the track, which makes it feel flat.
Song #2: Carries the same vibe as the previous song, but with more rhythmic complexity and variation. It could easily fit into the soundtrack of a 90s adventure movie.
Song #3: More emotional, which I generally prefer, but it doesn’t fully land for me. It feels like something is missing. Still, it’s a solid track overall.
Song #4: Has a “hopeful” tone. It’s a good song, but like the previous one, it doesn’t really connect with me on an emotional level.
Song #5: Strong instrumental introduction. It leans into a 90s grunge sound, but with more energy, which works well.
Song #6: Possibly the heaviest track so far. It sounds decent, but as with several prevous songs, it doesn’t really make me feel anything.
Song #7: Clearly a 90s song, and it grows on you over time. I initially missed more variation, but the chorus stands out with a different feel, and halfway through the song the variations finally kick in. So no major complaints here. Probably the best track on the album so far.
Song #8: I like the vocals here more than on most of the previous songs, but the track itself doesn’t really go anywhere. Not bad, just not particularly interesting.
Song #9: The vocals lack emotion for a song that’s clearly trying to be emotional, which creates a disconnect for me. Overall, the song doesn’t live up to its potential.
Song #10: Easygoing, but it doesn’t work for me. Alanis has a great voice, yet I can’t quite feel the emotion behind it—it feels flat for most of the song. It becomes more energetic as it progresses, and the chorus brings back those familiar 90s vibes, but the rest of the song doesn’t match that energy.
Song #11: Feels soulless. Other songs on the album at least had some potential, but this one is completely generic and leaves no impression.
Song #12: Another generic and unremarkable track. It feels more like filler than a meaningful addition to the album.
Overall: 5/10
Not a bad album. The 90s influence is clear and enjoyable, but most of the songs fail to deliver the emotion they seem to aim for. I like Alanis’s voice, but something feels missing. Some tracks might work in very specific settings, but overall, it feels like just another album rather than something memorable.
