Way blander than I expected it to be. Disappointing when her voice is so good.

Heroes by David Bowie
Jan 04 2026
Joan Armatrading by Joan Armatrading
Jan 05 2026

I really loved Down to Zero but found myself losing interest around halfway.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Jan 06 2026

Not sure the first Monday morning back at work after Christmas break is the right time for Led Zep. Can tell is groundbreaking, influential etc but maybe just not my thing.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Jan 07 2026

John Lennon singing Motown covers will always be for me. First repeat play of the list!

Dear Science by TV On The Radio
Jan 08 2026

Lost interest but liked Family Tree.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Jan 09 2026

This album came out when I was 12 and I still know about 80% of the words. Big nostalgia trip. I maintain that You Oughta Know holds up.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jan 10 2026

I remember being disappointed by this at the time because of the singles being so good. I still think Zero and Heads Will Roll are the stand out songs but enjoyed more of this as a whole this time. Skeletons was good!

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Jan 11 2026

This was a welcome change from indie rock/classic rock. None of my favourite Beyonce songs are on this album so it was also good to hear some 'new to me' stuff.

Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren
Jan 12 2026

First thoughts. Uh oh. I've avoided this since I saw McLaren on TV in the 90s claiming he invented hip hop. But that's the point of this, right, to listen to something you wouldn't necessarily choose and be challenged. 4/5 for the music, -10,000 for not giving the musicians on this the money and credit owed.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Jan 13 2026

Yeah it's bombastic and pretentious. Sometimes you need that. I woke up this morning with No Cars Go in my head. The album that got me into Arcade Fire after seeing them at Glastonbury. It's not something I listen to lots these days (think the Suburbs and Funeral get more plays) but enjoyed revisiting it.

Jan 14 2026

Enjoyed the singles but a lot now feels dated and very 'ooh look how shocking I am"

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Jan 15 2026

What is this? I have never heard of this band. A terrible 80s cock rock cover of Curtis Mayfield? what have I done to deserve this? Enjoying this more now that it's gone ska. But ultimately not my thing.

Jan 16 2026

I always thought this album cover was an abstract picture of a goat. It's not. The Scientist is a big piece of cheese and I love it. Not really fussed by the rest.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jan 21 2026

I think I've been being too harsh on some of the selections so far. It's hard when you get to an album like this with a MASSIVE REPUTATION, but yeah, five stars for the sounds and the melodies and the production. Thanks for finally making me listen to this.

Drunk by Thundercat
Jan 23 2026

It's good, but it's a bit aggressively pleasant. I wanted it to be weirder.

Way blander than I expected it to be. Disappointing when her voice is so good.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Jan 27 2026

Not my favourite Bowie but Time and Let's Spend The Night Together are highlights

Jan 28 2026

In 2008 I got obsessed with playing Knights of Cydonia on Wii Guitar Hero, but apart from that and liking Supermassive Black Hole as a single, I didn't ever give this album a listen. You can tell the dance rock/electro influences on this and my Franz Ferdinand/LCD Soundsystem loving early twenties self probably would have loved it. Oh well, better late than never. Supermassive Black Hole sounds like Prince and Matt Bellamy's falsetto finally works! The opening of Map of the Problematique sounds like the Pet Shop Boys.

Fuzzy Logic by Super Furry Animals
Jan 30 2026

This came up and I thought, 'oh I like this but not as much as Radiator or Guerrilla'. I was wrong. Loved every minute. If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You was a highlight.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Jan 31 2026

Today I was not in the mood for cheesy 70s Paul. Maybe another day. Also the medley at the end felt like cheating.
