3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul

One of the greatest albums of all time, hip hop or otherwise. Flowing with genuine whimsy and heart and full of incredible sampling. The only negative is that its maybe 10 minutes too long.

Hotel California by Eagles
Jan 05 2026

The Eagles are one of those bands that seem to get an insane amount of hate but I've always been mostly neutral about them. Hotel California is apparently one of the best selling albums of all time but I'm not sure I understand why? Aside from the two prominent singles of the title track and Life in the Fast Lane there's nothing really memorable here. Wasted Time is a bit of a nice ballad but then it just becomes more lazy and generic as the second side goes on.

Harvest by Neil Young
Jan 06 2026

Not my favorite Neil record but there's quite enough gems on here to make a enjoyable listen. The orchestral songs leave a lot to be desired though.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jan 07 2026

A fun and catchy pop rock album from someone who should've had a longer career. There's an undercurrent of sadness buried beneath the upbeat music and that really strikes a chord.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jan 08 2026

One of the greatest albums of all time, hip hop or otherwise. Flowing with genuine whimsy and heart and full of incredible sampling. The only negative is that its maybe 10 minutes too long.

Jan 09 2026

Arguably the peak of Britpop, full of big, anthemic choruses and highly successful singles. It's not my favorite Oasis album but its for sure very good. However, the mastering is terrible. The whole "wall of sound" of it all really leaves a lot to be desired.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jan 12 2026

Easy to see why this was such a big influence on Talking Heads.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Jan 14 2026

I've come to accept that REM just aren't for me and that's okay. Musically skilled as they are, Michael Stipe's vocals bother me so much that listening to them becomes a chore.

Ananda Shankar by Ananda Shankar
Jan 15 2026

First half rips, meanders way too long in the second but I enjoyed most of it.

Dirty by Sonic Youth
Jan 16 2026

Not as strong as Goo and Daydream Nation but I'll take any excuse to listen to this phenomenal band.

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Jan 19 2026

One of the best to ever do it. Quite simply a masterpiece.

Triangle by The Beau Brummels
Jan 21 2026

Not bad, but certainly not good and sadly it's unforgettable. I can't get over how it sounds like a blatant Dylan parody.

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon
Jan 23 2026

Better than I was expecting it to be, but also nothing really stands out and it just drags on and on. The skits are lame, the production is neat, but the flow is inconsistent and the theme gets old real fast.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Jan 26 2026

Easy to see why this is the best selling jazz album of all time. Extremely accessible but not for a lack of complexity. Miles assembled his best sextant and the musicianship is the best it could ever get.

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Jan 28 2026

Like every Neil Young album, there's a fair mix of great ballads and generic country rock that doesn't do much for me. This was is just okay.

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Jan 30 2026

A beautiful and gentle album. I get choked up every time I hear Father and Son.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Feb 02 2026

Funky and full of soul in all the right places, even if the flow is a bit inconsistent.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Feb 04 2026

One of the most perfect debuts a band could ever make. Led Zeppelin bust out of the gate fully swinging with their signature sound that they would build on throughout the years. Not a single wasted moment, even the filler songs serve a purpose. There's a tight rawness in Jimmy Page's guitar sound that for some reason never got revisited on later albums.

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Feb 06 2026
The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Feb 09 2026

A few solid tracks but does not excuse the overlong runtime and blatant misogyny

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Mar 10 2026

I like Bob Dylan just as much as anyone but there is such a thing as too much Bob Dylan

Low by David Bowie
Mar 11 2026

Arguably Bowie’s masterpiece. A superb mix of quirky pop and abstract soundscapes, a work of genius in every sense of the word.

Boston by Boston
Mar 12 2026

Insane to think this was created by just two dudes in a basement. Practically every song is a staple of classic rock radio, and for good reason.

L.A. Woman by The Doors
Mar 16 2026

The title track and Riders on the Storm are great but the rest of it is standard blues rick that gets boring real fast.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
May 18 2026

Hard to overstate how influential this album was to the indie/underground scene. The Nico tracks are pretty underwhelming but everything else holds up super well.

With The Beatles by Beatles
May 20 2026

Standard early Beatles era fare, but there’s a handful of great tunes.

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
May 22 2026

Missy one of the best to ever do it, but this is a pretty standard album from her. Not a bad thing by any stretch because there's a lot of great songs but it didn't hit as hard as I would've liked. Work It remains an all time banger.
