1001 Albums Summary

This album was part of my teenage years. A very welcome reunion when it popped up. This is #1 of #1001Albums.

68 this year (2026) and I cannot believe that I have never sat down and listened to this entire album. My loss is also my joyous discovery. It lost one star for me because of the somewhat naff lyrics.

I've never listened to Muddy Waters before in my life. I can't even begin to describe the utter JOY that this music gave me on my very first ever listening.

Definitely not my usual wheelhouse, but, surprisingly, I liked this. Shirley Manson has a great and powerful presence on the album. Not one that I would visit regularly, though. Confession: I never finished listening to the whole album.

Oh dearie me. I'm approaching #5 in my list with some trepidation. Completely unfamiliar to me. I've listened to the first track. It's not setting my world on fire. Sampled the rest. Just not for me.

The sixties are back and every song on this album is pure sixties. I never found anything to distinguish this band from so many other bands of that era. The music is good but it lapses so often into psychedelia and such that it just wafts away. Floyd did it so much better.

I know that she is a brilliant singer/songwriter but gods almighty - I cannot stand folk music. It's like fingernails on a blackboard to me.

Talk about getting out of my comfort zone ... I immediately felt like I should be dragging on a cigarette in a smoke filled jazz basement many decades ago. It was a not unpleasant feeling.

Fabulously aggressive music from 1965. It's like the Beatles but with actual balls. Thundering guitars and insane raw vocals. There is NOTHING refined about this music. Loved it.

As much as I want to hate this - I don't. It's brilliant synth-pop music that went on to define some of the future directions of pop music. So much electronica, so little time. Don't You Want Me is still a song that I will pump up on the radio.

It's great and very wonderful music but just not to my taste. At all. I'm not their market.

I would probably have loved this back in the 80s in my hugely alcoholic headbanging years. Now - not so much. In fact, it's a huge pass from me.

What a wonderful discovery. Never heard of him. Music is just so good. Heaps of lovely sax, and so very laid back. Cool in the Pool indeed.

I never appreciated the artistry of George Michael until much later in my life. He was magnificent.

AIC was a phase that I went through that embodied a dating phase that I went through. It was great at the time but I left it all behind.

I can't begin to say how much I loathe this style of music. Crooning, Hispanic - man can't decide what he is. It's a big NO from me.

4/5 just for Respect.

I lasted 30 seconds into the first track. Not for me.

Still brilliant after all these years.

A real eye opener. Brilliant singer/songwriter, music sounds fresh and vibrant even after 30+ years from the original release date.

I liked some of their stuff back in the day but it's not music that I search for these days.

Way too folksy for me. Acoustic guitar riffs from the get go on every track meant that this one was skipped through very briefly. Musically, I'm sure it was wonderful but it was simply not to my taste.
