If I hadn't put on headphones, I don't think I would've noticed some of the nuances of this album. The heartbeat on 'Speak to Me' particularly. I never knew that was there. I've listened to this album in the past with Brent, but never actually listened-listened. The title of the album comes from the song 'Brain Damage', which I find fascinating. But, it segued into the final song, 'Eclipse' so well, I truly feel like it was fluid. I thought it was so fluid, that I literally went back to the song and replayed the last few moments to listen to the transition. There is truly no transition. It just flows. And, as it began, it ends in such a similar manner with heartbeats and faint whispers.
I've really liked the following songs:
Breathe
The Great Gig in the Sky
Money (I feel like I could strut to this song after robbing a bank)
Eclipse
I really enjoy the guitar and rhythm usage throughout the entire album. I felt like the pinnacle of an angsty teen as I leaned back in my bed, legs curled up, looking out my window as I devoured this album. I feel like this is an album best enjoyed in the summer months with its light, bouncy sounds. I think this is one I’d like to procure. Overall, this brought me back to high school a bit and I liked it a lot.
Favorite Songs:
Blister In The Sun - only one I recognized by title, classic.
Kiss Off - enjoy the start and count off in the lyrics
Add It Up - went between “like this” and “yikes”, but good beat and silly lyrics
Prove My Love - fun start and bop of a song
Promise - ‘…you know that I want your loving, but my logic tells me that it ain’t never gonna happen and then my defenses say I didn’t want it anyway’
Gone Daddy Gone - really enjoy the xylophone riff and bass drum and instrumental parts of this, lot of summery vibes in this one song
Good Feeling - feels a bit like a sunset
Ugly - see title! also, the beat!
I didn't realize that I would know so many of the songs from this album. So many of these remind me of the early 2000s and I enjoyed this album because of it. But, I feel the album was front loaded with the good songs.
Favorites:
Where The Streets Have No Name - classic song, love the opening guitar
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - I enjoy the vocals on this song
With Or Without You - reminds me of The Office
Running To Stand Still - enjoy the softness of this song
I wanted to like this one so much. I feel like in so many shows and movies, all the "cool girls" love The Smiths. I didn't really like this one at all. I liked one song and it was just the lyrics I enjoyed.
Favorite Song:
Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me - I enjoyed the lyrics of this song.
I didn’t know I’d like Led Zeppelin this much. I think I liked every song in this album. Nothing that I didn’t like. Wide range of types of songs which allow me to listen to it at any time. I will come back to this album again.
Favorite Songs:
Black Dog - I knew this song, but not the title. I feel a little…spicy listening to this one. It’s fun!
Rock And Roll - Great drum work throughout and what a great ending with the drum.
Stairway To Heaven - I think everyone knows this song. Long piece, but beautiful guitar work. I think it uses a recorder? It’s very neat in all.
Going To California - Beautiful lyrics. Beautiful melody. I think this is my favorite song of the whole album.
When The Levee Breaks - Great combo of drum, harmonica and some bass as well. Nice, steady rhythm. Love the jazz undertone throughout this song.
This album starts like so many albums of the early 2010s did — with a soundbite of them in their “real life”. The sound of a phone, a laughter. There were a few songs I enjoyed. But, there was a lot of bits of this album where I just wanted to press skip.
Favorite Songs:
Thinking About You - I remember this one. I know this one. I like it, it has fond memories for me.
Super Rich Kids - I also like this one. I find the lyrics interesting.
Lost - fun backbeat/sound, I like singing along.
Brent really, really loves this album and was excited to listen with me. He sung and bopped along. What a fun way to spend an evening together. I felt it started great and ended great, but was a bit of a lull in the middle.
Favorite Songs:
Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon - I love the sound effects, the pick-me-up pace of the guitar as well, and the lyrics are a joy.
You’re My Best Friend - This makes me feel like I’m in a 2000 romcom opening sequence, getting ready. Such a happy song.
‘39 - I like the storytelling element of this song.
Bohemian Rhapsody - I think everyone knows this one at this point. What a range of a song.
I wouldn’t mind listening to this album again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it. Definitely, not my thing.
Favorite Songs:
It’s A Fire - I like the lyrics of this song, it ends nice with the organ as well.
Glory Box - Sensual, great guitar in this one.
I knew this band - just didn’t know it (Teardrop is the other song I know by them). I think this would be an album I’d be comfortable working out to. I maybe did’t have a lot of “favorite” songs, but they all sounded decent enough.
Favorite:
One Love - Love the beat in this piece, some interesting usage of musical instruments.
Lately - This has such a great disco-like beat to it.
Not a bad album, limited vocals. Would probably listen to again. Didn’t have a favorite song from it, but overall it was a good album.
Although I've taken 4 years of Spanish, it's been quite a while. The bulk of what I use nowadays it to communicate with clients and their spouses in an emergency. But, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy this album. This album is relaxing, energizing, and a wonderful piece of work all together.
Favorite Song:
Pueblo Nuevo - Beautiful guitar melodies.
Overall, pretty nice album. Again though, nothing that hit me more than anything else.
Favorite Song:
Two Doves - beautiful lyrics, love the instrumental melody, the “call on me” almost sounds like a bird call
Not my thing at all. I feel like I wasted my time with this album.
First album I needed to pull up on Youtube since it's not on Spotify. I didn't like this album. This was a dud.
Interesting album! I’ve never heard it before and I’ll definitely give it another listen.
Favorite Song:
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Pt 1 - cools effect sounds, fun story
Ambient album, it was fun to listen to. I saved it and will listen again in the future.
All around a solid album. I had several songs I knew and several I didn’t. I love his usage of story in so many of his pieces.
Favorite Songs:
American Pie - such a classic and a great example of storytelling in music
Vincent - this is one of my most favorite songs in the world.
Crossroads - really love the piano in this piece
Empty Chairs - what a sad and beautiful song
This album is a perfect example of how adding more, doesn’t make it better. The only song I truly enjoyed was Maggot Brain. The rest was a bust and a waste of my time.
Favorite Song:
Maggot Brain, alternative mix - hate the title, but the guitar is good.
Repetitive and a waste of my time.
In general, not my thing…
Favorite Song:
In Every Dream Home a Heartache - the guitar in this is great.
A classic album. I don’t think I have a favorite song, but definitely decent!
Good overall album! I enjoyed the entire thing.
Favorite Songs:
Do It Again - I know this one! What a fun song to start the album with.
Dirty Work - Another song I know and love!
Reelin’ In The Years - Love the guitar intro, and I know this one well!
Change Of The Guard - good song! I like the harmonizing during the instrumental parts.
Not my style, but at least bearable. Would give it another listen.
Not bad, but also not my thing.
Fun album! I didn’t have a favorite, but I enjoyed the piece!
