The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths

Morrissey seems self-centered and pretentious, but this is all pretty great. Maybe I'm just too old for this?

Hotel California by Eagles
Feb 14 2026

Memories of high school for some tracks. Others I didn't remember at all -- those were a little too much easy listening for me.

Lost Souls by Doves
Feb 15 2026

Atmospheric, moody, which was interesting at first, but less so as the album wore on. I don't take the right drugs.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Feb 16 2026

I love the overall sound, but Michael Stipe is not a great singer and as much of the lyrics as I could make out are really random. R.E.M. got a lot better as they went on. I would not listen to this again.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Feb 17 2026

I appreciate what they're doing more than I enjoy it. It's impressive. Thoughtful and catchy at the same time. So many things coming together in this -- I hear electronic and jazz with the hip hop. And it's smart. I'm not a huge fan of spoken word over music in any format, but this is good, if not to my taste.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Feb 18 2026

The title track is a banger, and "Fame" is interesting, but the rest is not Bowie at his best.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Feb 19 2026

Morrissey seems self-centered and pretentious, but this is all pretty great. Maybe I'm just too old for this?

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Feb 20 2026

Why can't the front man ever be a guy who can actually sing? Or maybe this guy can sing but doesn't want to? I don't understand why the instruments all sound so good but the voice doesn't seem to be important. The soaring violins really bug me too, on the opposite end of the timbre spectrum.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Feb 21 2026

Hard to rate something so familiar. But I do love this album.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Feb 24 2026

I enjoyed listening to it but a few hours later I can't really remember it. Nice Hammond organ though.

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Feb 25 2026

Another reviewer said if a woman did this, it wouldn't be on here. I couldn't agree more.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Feb 26 2026

Voice has a nice timbre, but he's not in control of an over-wide vibrato, which is grating. The crooning and overwrought strings - and a little zimbelstern maybe toward the end of Wait until Dark - conflict with the weird, pretentious lyrics, and maybe that's the point, but I hate it. And The Girls and the Dogs is just offensive. I quit halfway through that track. 13th album, 13th album by a man.

Who's Next by The Who
Feb 28 2026

Great album, all the way through. Also, 15th album, still not a single woman.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Mar 01 2026

Not my favorite flavor of Getz and Byrd, but they're still amazing. 16th album, 16th album by men. Seriously. WTF.

Debut by Björk
Mar 02 2026

Wildly uneven.

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Mar 04 2026

Beautiful voice, but OMG yawn.
