Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Apr 23 2026

This album is a little one trick pony for me, but it's a good trick. Fogerty's guitar work is some hot stuff from a blues perspective. "Sinister Purpose" has a bit of a Black Sabbath N.I.B. vibe.

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Apr 24 2026

This is probably the most energetic I've heard The Cure. Still, it's The Cure, so it's energetic for a funeral dirge. The album starts to drag, as the tempo and structure don't vary much from song to song. It sounds bloody fantastic, though. You could pick any song and easily see why they were pioneering for Goth rock. As an aside, Nirvana's "About a Girl" seems like it might have been strongly influenced by "M."

2112 by Rush
Apr 27 2026

Is this album the progenitor of prog rock or just self-indulgent wanking? Do I care? How many other bands have the confidence to make the first track on an album 20 minutes long with a babbling brook in the middle? It's interesting to hear how 70s this record sounds from a gear/tone perspective. It's like the epitome of classic rock gear played with progressive orchestration. If the music shifted back to blues roots, the sound would already be right at home.

In Utero by Nirvana
Apr 28 2026

This album is like half irreverent class clown junk, and half dark and twisted brilliance. So I guess it's a Nirvana album.

Horses by Patti Smith
Apr 29 2026

Wow

Metallica by Metallica
Apr 30 2026

Trying to stay positive here. This album brought metal to the masses, but for the band, it feels like they were stuck between the fiery stuff from their youth and the somber grindingly melodic songs that would appear on Load/Reload. So in a way, this album feels a little lost. In being more appealing to most, they lost some of what made them special to a few.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
May 01 2026

This is some great musicianship. It's also the Beatles. Sometimes they can be so...the Beatles.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
May 04 2026

Not for me.

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
May 06 2026

Wonderul bass playing throughout.
