Great album, classic prog hit. In the scheme of 1001 great albums, it absolutely merits a 4, but in the realm of prog, I think there are more interesting bands/albums and really only is a 3. However, the international impact of this album + the ingenuity of Lee, Peart, and Lifeson combined is absolutely incredible.
Biased rating 100%, this is nostalgic for me
I was not expecting to like it as much as I did! I enjoyed the cross section between classic rock, folk, and country and thought the intersection of them were fused artfully.
I thought the vocal harmonies throughout the album were tasteful and contributed positively to their overall sound. Additionally, the light guitar licks between verses/choruses were effective in adding interest, without taking away from the focus of the song.
Personally, my favorite tracks were Almost Cut My Hair and Deja Vu. Would absolutely listen again!
Honestly, I think this album would be more effective as instrumental music. I did not love the singer's voice.
I enjoyed the track My Oh My and most of them on the 1st half of the album. Nothing specifically caught my attention and not something I would seek out again.
Overall, its not bad, but not good either.
Tbh, would be fire to study to though!
Honestly, it just mid britslop
Forest Fire and Four Flights Up are okay. This album isn't inherently bad, however I feel no need to ever go back to it. In my opinion, it isn't unique enough to be distinguised form others in the genre.
I've only listened to the hits on this album, so listening to it in full was new for me. I really enjoyed it and I understand why it is so famous. Though The Police falls into the genre of classic rock, I felt that they had a very original sound and added value to the genre as a whole. Would absolutely listen again!
I had hope when the album started, but honestly a couple songs in, it was pretty stagnant and had nothing notable/memorable. Peak starbucks cafe background music, but not something I would ever go out of my way for. I feel that in this genre of music, there are much more successful artists that could have been chosen instead.
I enjoyed this album more than I expected to. The songs were great and catchy.
I really liked their harmonic vocabulary and modal chord progression, often modulating 2+ times within a song.
Overall, I liked it but the drummer was questionable at times and didn't love the pianist or the singing. Guitar was great though and the general overarching songs were nice.
Very artistic - nothing something I would have found on my own, but I thought it was a very creative and expressive album
