1. I Ain't The One - Blues Rock cliches galore, with some annoying squealing vocal tones. But could be worse.
2. Tuesday's Gone - Keyboard sound is a bit weird, and emphasizes the larmoyance of the lead singer's voice. And "Gone With The Wind" - did that work back then? Too long.
3. Gimme Three Steps - Finally a good riffage intro. Chuck Berry knew better.
4. Simple Man - Ode to Good Ol' Boy. Meh.
5. Things Goin' On - Oompah Honkytonk. Not the worst though.
6. Mississippi Kid - Slide guitar & harmonica filler.
7. Poison Whiskey - My favorite this far.
8. Free Bird - One of these songs that are so entrenched in pop culture that it seems impossible to judge it without bias. It seems fun enough.

No sense reviewing the individual songs too much, as they say, it's pretty much "a vibe". Musically quite cool, blues roots still evident, and given the length of the songs we're not entirely into psychedelia/jam territory, but there's a good amount of experimentation.
This is a lot better than I expected. Good sample usage. Machine Gun Funk slaps hard, as they say.
Hey, it even has an instrumental. Pretty ageless sound.
All time classic for me.
I can understand why this was somewhat ground-breaking, with the G-funk sound and lots of talented rappers.
This might've been a novelty back then with that fake-rapping combined with blues, but novelty alone doesn't carry an album.
Joni Mitchell is a great artist. Blue is an alltime classic, and you hear a lot of the songs from this album on certain radio stations, too. So it's almost a personal shame that I can say that I just can't get too warm about it. There's artistry galore here, from Mitchell herself and I wouldn't be surprised if the session players are Wrecking Crew level 70s all-stars, too. But, sorry…
All-time classic to me. Jethro Tull does overblown prog rock, but with a gritty undertone *and* theatrics.
I found this surprisingly good. I've known Morrisey more by his reputation than actual music–the bad political takes, the MST3K "Did I tell you that I cried?" parody etc.; In some way, this is what I expected, but there's a lot of craft shining through, the song length matches well with the topics, not overstaying their welcome so even if a particular topic is a bit grating, it's on to the next little ballad. It doesn't get boring, which is more than I can say about other albums I've been presented here.

Probably ground-breaking, but way too much drugs & black turtlenecks for me.
I didn't even know about this band, and to be fair, I'm not the biggest hip hop fan. But that's the point of this exercise, listening to records outside of your regular purview.
And this is quite good! If I hadn't looked it up, I would've assumed this is a lot older, not from 2002. Catch tunes, good samples (not Funky Drummer for the umpteenth time) and a good mix of vocalists make this a rather varied listening experience. Will listen again.
I kinda like "space rock" and adjacent genres. But this just didn't really ignite the thrusters for me, so to speak. It's more on the noisy end of the spectrum, with a few surprising dashes of gospel, and I like my spacy/stoner stuff more in in the Floydian vein, or synth-heavy, or heavier in general. Pretty great blues rock record. I'd like a bit more virtuosity on the instrumental side and Janet Joplin is a bit too one-note for me, but wow, what a note.
Kinda the missing link between new wavey stuff and Oasis-era shoegaze/Britpop. So not as bad is it could be, but still already a bit off the mark. I'd like the songs to be a bit more dynamic.
Great voice, but it's a weird artifact of an age where they tried to de-fang "rhythm & blues", so it's a bit too tame. I mean, it's great sock hop music, but I liked it more for its historical significance than as a listening experience.
I like the EM part, not that big a fan of the D, though. Wait…
Historically significant, and musically quite entertaining. I just have some issues with Flavor Flav's style clashing with the hard rocking production and the otherwise serious blast of lyrics. But yeah, this seems half-way between old school and gangsta.
