Classic album, can't believe I hadn't listened before. Can definitely tell that it was co-produced by David Bowie, what a great musical team up! Love the songs 'Tonight' and 'Success', had of course listened to 'The Passenger' before but just hadn't realised it so that was a surprise. Overall a very cool listening experience for my first generated album!
Loved this album (obviously). 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is on this record, therefore it will receive an instant five stars, which needs no further explanation. However, aside from the aforementioned song and 'Love of my life' and 'You're my best friend', I hadn't listened to the others before with much intent. I was especially surprised by 'Death on two legs' which I will be adding to my regular Queen listening repertoire. Honorable mention for 'I'm in love with my car' which I thought was hilarious, and 'Seaside rendezvous' for the mock instrumental bridge with Taylor's impression of a kazoo. Every song on this album is intentional in its production and musicality, the experimental sound is SO cool, and an excellent example of why Queen really are the best rock band to ever exist.
While I am readily open to listening to genres of music that I would not necessarily listen to on the regular, I feel that with the jazz/afrobeat fusion type music that Zombie by Fela Kuti is, one has to be in a particular mood to engage. That said, I gave it as much of a listen as I could and what I did listen to was pretty cool and opened my eyes to this kind of music. Not my usual style, but in no way am I opposed to putting this on when the situation calls for it.
First thing I noticed was the front woman who is in that one episode of Friends HAHA. I like this kind of music for sure, reminds me of my '10 Things I Hate About You' era when I listened to this kind of music. Chrissie Hynde has a really cool vocal sound; I would definitely go back and listen to this album more.
I actually can't believe I hadn't listened to this album in full before. I loved it, its exactly the kind of music I could listen to whenever, and it reminded me of Xavier which was sweet!
On first listen I must admit I am not the biggest fan of their overall sound, it's very similar to some of The Beatles' stuff and I don't love the "clanging" kind of percussive overstimulation that this era of music sometimes produced. That said, there are some stand out songs like the title track 'My Generation', which I had listened to before.
'Sunshine of your love' is a great track, it's on one of my playlists already. I am a fan of this album and Cream in general; I love the guitar heavy, hippie vibe. The final track 'Mothers Lament' is a really fun way to end the album!
Kate Bush has such an interesting vocal quality that makes listening to her music such a special experience. I especially loved 'There Goes A Tenner.' This album is very experimental and has a strange production style, produced all by Bush herself. It's a fascinating listen for sure but I'm not certain I will return to this album as often as I would something else.
Billie Holiday has such a beautiful soulful voice, but I have to be honest, I am not the biggest fan of this era of music. There are just very few songs of this era that I actually would listen to. I find it hard to just sit and absorb this, as I feel I should be, because I truly do think this is good music - it's just not for me! Maybe when I'm an old lady... but to be honest, I think I'll still be listening to the likes of Noah Kahan and Frank Ocean when I'm 100.
Hit the motherfucking jackpot with this one, I LOVE THE CHILIS. Such a good listennnn, have added some new songs to my collection - 'Purple Stain' (which has some crazy lyrics, but the guitar riffs are just too good), 'Around the World', and 'This Velvet Glove.' I could go on and just list the whole album as additions to my collection but that would be folly, just know that I loved this album.
Another review with me having a rant about how good an album is, it's true every time, I am just passionate about a lot of music what can I say! I must admit I haven't listened to as much Def Leppard as I should have, knowing me and that I like this kind of music. I LOVE this era of music so much, and of course I already knew the kind of sound this album would bring from my pre-existing knowledge of 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'. I had a lot of fun listening to this album and I shall be returning in the foreseeable future.
Very fun listening experience, weird vibes for sure, but weird in a good way! I love the soulful, funky guitar, and Jimi has a great voice to listen to.
After the first couple songs I am tingling with the excitement that comes with discovering a new artist. I'm sorry to say I don't know who this man is! But I am glad to have stumbled upon him. GREAT VIBES. Upon further listening, I realize I have heard of Beck before as (conveniently enough) Spotify recommended the song 'Loser' to play after this album! So I am sorry Beck, I do know you, just not this album. FURTHERMORE, idk if this is a relevant comment but I love an album with cool cover art, and this album cover is sick - I love the design.
I like The Cure but I think only in moderation. I listened to this whole album on a dog walk, and the walk went quite quick which was good. Overall good listen for sure, but not a favourite new addition to my collection methinks.
The band incorporated fantasy elements and surreal characters into the album's song titles and lyrics, and worked with a variety of session musicians to create Triangle's psychedelic musical style.
I am actually kind of appalled at the language in this album. I'm not woke in anyway shape or form lets be real, and yet the obtuse use of the f slur in this album is disgusting?? Like I get it's his whole schtick but it's actually just cheap songwriting, just use normal swear words if you want to be provocative, like I don't get why Eminem feels the need to be so OVERTLY HOMOPHOBIC?? Don't get me wrong 'Stan', 'Under the Influence', 'Slim Shady' are all songs that I've listened to before and will listen to again probably, but when an album has me coming away from it feeling gross?????????? Nah man not for me.
I love the 80s… so many good songs on this album, but one of my favourites is ‘The Power of Love’ it’s such an anthem. ‘Relax’ and ‘War’ are also worth mentioning cause duh.
THE King Louis of The Jungle Book AKA 'I Wan'na Be Like You' singer, wow what a goat. 'The Wildest!' is considered an innovative mixture of early rock and roll, jump blues and jazz as well as eccentric humor (thanks Wikipedia), but I needed to do some research because I don't listen to a lot of jazz (if any) and I wanted to have a thorough understanding of Louis Prima and his 'sound'. This album is fun, and I do like the way it makes me feel like I should be in a speakeasy, drinking a negroni or something, and smoking a slutty little French cigarette that I'm holding with one of those Audrey Hepburn things.
Already an album I have saved because I went through a performative era of saving albums to my library that I thought were cool, but I actually have never listened to this album all the way through, so I am excited to do that finally!
