Illmatic by Nas
Jul 10 2026

As my first album in the 1001 Albums project, Illmatic made a strong first impression. I'm not the most experienced hip-hop listener, but it's easy to understand why this is considered one of the genre's greatest albums. The structure feels incredibly balanced, the production is consistently excellent, and Nas' cadence and delivery are unforgettable on several tracks. Even without catching every lyrical detail, the album's quality and influence are impossible to miss.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Jul 11 2026

I didn't know the work of sly and the family stone before picking up this suggestion. it got a nice groove but it did now blow me away, but I give it a lot of props from doing it back in 69.

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Jul 11 2026

I hadn’t heard of DJ Shadow before listening to this album. The mixing and sampling are incredible, and it feels like the foundation for so many electronic styles that would become popular later on. I especially loved the vinyl crackle woven into the samples—it gives the whole album a warm, timeless atmosphere. A really impressive listen.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jul 13 2026

I didn't really enjoy In a Silent Way. The long tracks, heavy emphasis on improvisation, and lack of clear direction just didn't click with me. I can appreciate what Miles Davis was trying to achieve, and listening to this album made me want to explore more of his work. That led me to Kind of Blue, which I found far more engaging and much easier to connect with. I'm not much of a jazz enthusiast, so that certainly influenced my experience. While this album gave me a greater appreciation for Miles Davis as an artist and his impact on music, the album itself simply didn't resonate with me.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jul 14 2026

The album wasn't nearly as depressing as I expected based on Elliott Smith's Wikipedia page and the reviews I'd read beforehand. Son of Sam ended up being one of my favorite tracks—there's something about its opening riff that completely mesmerizes me. It reminded me a little of Oasis, with a touch of Jeff Buckley, and just like Buckley, Smith's death feels like a tremendous loss to the world of music. Figure 8 was a wonderful discovery. The heartfelt lyrics, combined with its beautiful instrumentation, made for a surprisingly warm and memorable listening experience.

Jul 15 2026

Good Britpop with memorable melodies. It's a bit too whiny for my taste at times, but it's still an interesting listen. The songwriting is strong, and the catchy melodies make it easy to appreciate even if Morrissey's vocal style isn't entirely for me.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Jul 16 2026

I didnt know this band and I really enjoyed the vibes.

Infected by The The
Jul 17 2026

I like this a lot: both weird and familiar.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Jul 20 2026

This is the second album of elliot smith in a week! I really enjoyed discovering this artists, already heard a couple of songs from this album before when listening to figure 8. This one is a bit more melancolic, but in a good way. really enjoyed!

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jul 21 2026

Funky, fun. Maybe today as a good day, because i usually don't like this "jazzy" suggestions, but i really enjoyed this one!

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera
Jul 22 2026

Back to Basics was a pleasant surprise for me. Christina Aguilera was definitely part of my teenage years, but I never really got into her music, and over time my taste grew in a different direction. I decided to give this album a chance with an open mind, and it surprised me with how much depth it has. The vocals are outstanding, the instrumentation is rich and varied, and the songs are put together with a lot of care. There's a great sense of structure throughout the album, making it feel cohesive despite its ambitious scope. On top of that, it was a wonderful dose of nostalgia. Revisiting Christina's music from a different perspective all these years later made me appreciate this album much more than I expected.

Jul 23 2026

nice vibes but i don't like the politic message involved.

Debut by Björk
Jul 27 2026

Björk's Debut is one of those albums where I can clearly recognize the talent and originality behind it. The production is adventurous, her voice is captivating, and it's easy to see why it's considered so influential. That said, it's a bit too much for my personal taste. Its eclectic, experimental style never fully clicked with me, so while I respect it, it's not an album I see myself coming back to often.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Jul 28 2026

I was already familiar with Hounds of Love, but revisiting it feels like discovering its magic all over again. It’s one of those albums that remains endlessly refreshing, with Kate Bush’s iconic voice carrying a unique mix of vulnerability, theatricality, and intensity. Her ability to turn unconventional ideas into memorable songs is what makes this record so special. Even when it gets experimental, there’s always a strong sense of personality and emotion behind every choice. A timeless album that continues to feel as alive and captivating as ever.

Headquarters by The Monkees
Jul 29 2026

A TV version of The Beatles. Headquarters has some nice tunes, catchy melodies, and plenty of charm, but it never reaches the level of creativity or impact of the bands that defined the era. An enjoyable pop record with personality, though ultimately nothing particularly remarkable.

Blackstar by David Bowie
