I realised today that you can go back and rate albums you've missed. I picked this one because it's the shortest so far and it's late at night.
I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics but I didn't like the sounds enough for it to have been worth it anyway. No idea what this is supposed to evoke. It was listenable but I can't give it more than a 3/10.
I didn’t feel like getting up this morning so I stayed in the hotel room while my family explored Paris. This granted me my first hours of privacy since leaving home, which I used to listen to this album on my phone speaker. I don’t know how starving artists do it - I haven’t eaten in 22 hours and just writing this review seems borderline impossible.
I don’t think that Supergrass were ever starving artists, but being a part of the Britpop movement their music serves to represent the English working class of the time - in this way, Britpop helps modern Brits feel human and a part of something greater, which is an exciting sensation for a lot of people and fuels the continued draw of albums like this. Britpop has not yet painted a picture of a human condition I’ve wanted to be tied up in though.
Luckily Supergrass are talking about nothing half the time on this album, so in my ears the catchy melodies lead and the lyrics follow. I liked the darker, more abstract stuff (e.g. Lose It) much better than, say, Alright.
None of the let’s-all-hold-hands Britishness gets up in my face with this album the way it does with, say, Champagne Supernova. The fun music thereby narrowly avoids ruin.

Some of the more delicate parts were quite beautiful when I focused on them, but I spent much of the rest of the album waiting for it to end. I haven't seen the movie.

I've had this looping in the background for a few hours. It's fun, jazzy, atmospheric, but it didn't captivate me enough to come back to it.

Good one to listen to in the background because it forces you to pay attention to it. It was interesting enough that I'm glad I listened to it, but now that I've heard it I can't see myself being motivated to return to it. A few songs are pretty crazy.

The texture of the guitars on some of these songs sounds uncannily similar to those on In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
I think you'd have trouble ever convincing me to listen to this voluntarily. It's not painful but I don't like it. I haven't taken the time to absorb it deeply (in particular I haven't paid attention to the lyrics because I have to really focus for that). If someone begged me to return to this I therefore might be able to revise this rating, but, for now,

This was a day I was not going to miss. I listened to like two thirds of this album years ago but then listened to the rest of Kanye's stuff without ever getting back to it. There are some great songs here but it starts to drag in the second half.
