Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jul 29 2026

5/5 masterpiece. No skips. No fat. 40 minutes of pure heat. Sabbath nailed it on the first try and i dont know if anyone will ever top it. The dark and gloomy atmosphere mixed with the jazzy elements of Bill Wards drumming are perfect. This whole album feels like being chased by wolves on a cold rainy day in Translyvania. The lead lines of the guitar being used like accents to the harmony rather than traditional riffs are so cool as well. If i was a teenager in 1970, this shit wouldve knocked me on my ass.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jul 30 2026

3/5. This is my first real dive into Afrobeat, and theres a lot to like about this project. Tony Allens polyrhythmic drumming is a standout, along with the whole percussion section. The trumpets do a lot to carry each song forward and provide a jolt, and Fela Kuti solos are great. That being said, I feel this whole album never really makes it past the 3rd gear. I often found myself feeling the tension building only for it to be brought down again and again, and I wouldve liked to see some more dynamic change, particularly with the guitars. They keep the same basic jangle throughout every song, and it gets tired after a while. All the tracks seem to follow the same basic structure, and it often left me feeling like each progression had no place in the song. I think this couldve been one long song and it wouldnt have really made a difference in the listening experience. Mistake was the standout track, and I think thats mostly because it was live, and Jazz almost always sounds better live. Overall, while the instrumentation itself is nothing short of amazing, the composition as a whole left a lot to be desired in my opinion, and for that reason I really failed to connect on an emotional level with this project.

Achtung Baby by U2

It's giving wine mom at a concert. It's giving disney channel original movie soundtrack. It's giving bride and grooms special song. It's giving V-neck and chelsea boots. It's giving 2/5.

This album slaps. Production is smooth as hell. RIP Left Eye, love her parts on this. All the harmonies are ear candy. This album encapsultes everything great about this era of RnB. I miss a woman with a deep voice. Not groundbreaking enough to give a perfect score, but too enjoyable to give less than a 4/5.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Aug 04 2026

I had never heard of Siouxsie and The Banshees before, and so coming into this I was excited for this to be something new and interesting, perhaps opening me up to new musical avenues not yet gone down. This album was a pain to sit through. Its the only album that I've felt a real pull to just turn it off halfway through, and upon finishing I have very little good things to say about it. Instrumental wise, they are obviously very talented, and their was some cool ideas being conveyed in each song, but I felt no effort was made to expand on any of these concepts past the first stage. It felt similar to Zombie by Fela Kuti, except that the monotony in that project is at least broken up by interesting solo pieces, soaring backup vocals, and Fela own unique and fun vocals that kept me interested. This album has none of that. But if this album were all instrumental, I wouldn't feel nearly as strongly as I do about my dislike for this. but sadly it is not. Siouxie's vocal performances on this record are downright god awful in my opinion. The lyrics are stale, uninteresting, and evoke no sense of emotional resonance from me. Her lack of interesting melodic timbre does nothing to justify her incessant wailing throughout every single song, which evokes the feeling of babies crying. Ugly babies. 1/5.

Not an enjoyable listen. 1/5

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Aug 07 2026

Incredibly haunting atmosphere. I loved how nice the guitar and strings felt, in a way that plays off Cohens dark, brash vocals. Diamonds in the Mine was a standout for how animated he gets compared to the other tracks. And even if at many times I struggled to understand the themes of the lyrics, the emotion was always felt, and I feel upon further listening and further aging and wisdom I will appreciate this album more and more. But alas I am a little boy and so I give it a 3.5 rounded up to a 4.

Smash by The Offspring

Solid 90s punk sound. At time the vocals got a bit too blaring for me, but overall i thought they served the songs well. Self Esteem is the standout track

So by Peter Gabriel

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears

I went into a pit absolutely chock full of dishes, feeling sick and tired, and unsure of myself. I put on this album, and I let the energy wash over me, and I knocked that shit out in 30 minutes while moving and grooving. 4.5 rounded up to a 5.
