Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Aug 03 2026

Not a big heavy rock fan, but really enjoy this theatrical bit of nonsense. Some great tunes!

Tapestry by Carole King
Aug 04 2026

Not listened to this for quite a while - I'd forgotten how good it is. From memory I was thinking 4/5, but hearing it again it's getting 5/5.

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Aug 05 2026

Liked it better than I thought I would. In general I liked the music better than the rapping. Strong messages but not my bag.

Aug 06 2026

I hadn't heard of this album. I've just recently started listening to Sam Cooke again, so this is a perfect addition. Love it!

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Aug 07 2026

I love Willie Nelson's voice and have many of his albums but just can't enjoy this one. It's just a bit too cheesy. Sunny Side of the Street is nice, though.

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Aug 10 2026

Boring. Didn't like it at all.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Aug 11 2026

Great to hear this again. Definitely his best album. One of two of the songs are a bit weak but the majority are proper bangers.

Medúlla by Björk
Aug 12 2026

What a shame: in this album Björn has tipped from brilliance into absolute pretentiousness. I do hope that any of her earlier albums are on this list as they are far, far better. Listening to this was hard work.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Aug 13 2026

Poor Amy. It's difficult to listen to this album without remembering the last couple of years of her life, watching her career take off and her life spin down out of control, gleefully documented at every opportunity by the tabloids. Drugs, booze and crap relationships are everywhere in the lyrics here. I don't like what the album represents, despite the beautiful arrangements and her beautiful voice.

Rising Above Bedlam by Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart
Aug 14 2026

I really like this album. I'd never heard it before and had only vaguely heard of Jah Wobble. I particularly like the songs he doesn't sing on - the first song, with Sinead O'Connor, is great. His own singing voice is not good.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Aug 15 2026

I love Pscho Killer, but I don't much like the rest of this album. Good to hear it, though, even if it just confirms that I'm not a fan of Talking Heads.

Ace of Spades by Motörhead
Aug 16 2026

Ace of Spades is a proper classic track, and I've long had a soft spot for this album. It's so wrong it's right!

Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues
Aug 17 2026

Excellent album. When I'm in the mood for it I think it's one of the best albums ever. Definitely the best Pogues album - Shane McGowan was on fire here.

Play by Moby
Aug 18 2026

There are a few good songs here, but listening to the whole album it all starts to sound the same, and a bit boring. Not my bag.

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals
Aug 20 2026

Really dull. No idea how this made it into the 1001 list. This is the first album here that I couldn't be bothered to listen to.

The Libertines by The Libertines
Aug 21 2026

I really dislike the image of Pete Doherty as a public figure : pretentious, bloated and unsavoury. Like many acts that I love, in fact, but he just seems completely without charm. I don't like his whiny voice. His band is far too good for him, and any stars I give are for them.

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
Aug 22 2026

This is the first Public Enemy album I've listened to. I listened to it quite happily, though it's really not something I need to listen to again. The music is too repetitive.

Aug 23 2026

Ugh. Boring, droning, overrated crap. I hate Oasis, their cynical greed and their egomania. Above all, I hate their music. Aah, I feel better for getting that off my chest! :-D

Blood, Sweat & Tears by Blood, Sweat & Tears
Aug 24 2026

I knew a couple of the tunes, but it's not really my thing. Clearly the musicians are very good, though.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Aug 25 2026

Repulsive cover, but a pretty good album overall with a couple of undisputed classics (Brown Sugar, Wild Horses, Moonlight Mile). Some of the lyrics haven't aged well, to say the least, but the music is great. Jagger's faux-American accent is hilarious!
