Pearl by Janis Joplin

if you listen to this earnestly, it’s great. in 2026, this would absolutely not work. but in 1971 this record was something special.

a classic for a reason. set the bar for psychedelic music and concept albums. upon another repeat listen, only slight qualm is that the back half of the album doesn’t quite live up to the grandeur and epic was of the first half.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Aug 10 2026

a little psychedelia, some bluesy rock, some smooth jazz licks on bass, and some theatrical over the top playing and singing. but somehow it all works.

Imagine by John Lennon
Aug 14 2026

the title track is a tough listen in 2026. some great songs here, and some not so great. when lennon sets aside the tough guy persona and gets introspective, there are some true highlights. but the album unfortunately does not hold up for modern audiences.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Aug 18 2026

no doubt a good album, but just not for me. songs all sounded the same. instrumentation and support was rather flat as well.

Very by Pet Shop Boys
Aug 19 2026

some early house beats mixed with pop sensibilities. fun album

Smash by The Offspring
Aug 20 2026

a little all over the place. not really punk, not really hardcore, add in a little ska. the hits are the hits, but beyond that, not for me.

A Walk Across The Rooftops by The Blue Nile
Aug 21 2026

the music remains light and airy while the lyrics are incredibly heartfelt and earnest. such unique instrumentation as well. somehow makes a harp seem cool. such an outstanding album.

Is This It by The Strokes
Aug 24 2026

so ripe for the time. this album is 2001 rock music. it might not sound nearly as fresh and pure as it did back then, but this album laid the groundwork for 2000s cool indie rock music

Abbey Road by Beatles
Aug 25 2026

what am ambitious record, especially knowing the entire medley was not radio friendly. as a final send off, it’s remarkable. you can see how they played off each other and built each others songs up. something that would go missing from a lot of their solo records.

Trio by Dolly Parton
Aug 27 2026

country musics female answer to the highwaymen. some songs are good, some are meh. nothing really transcendent, but overall an easy listen.
