Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Oct 12 2026

This is great. The mix is super weird to me personally, but I love the instrumentation and the way his vocal is mixed. Love the percussion/drums and the attitude of the record as a whole. Brass section is great-sometimes it feels too loud. I would like to hear this record mixed slightly differently, but maybe that would lose a lot of the magic. Love the guitar tones too, beautifully clean and jazzy. But I’m not a separate the art from the artist kind of person at all. Certainly do not condone domestic violence and violence against women. My star score reflects only the music-something I’m forcing myself to do for this challenge, otherwise I fear there would be a whole lot of zero stars going around. Fuck shitty dudes who beat women for ANY reason 🖕🏻(because there’s never a legitimate reason to do that shit)

My Generation by The Who
Oct 13 2026

Hmmmm. I’m confused about why this is here-because The Beatles. I’ve never really gotten into The Who. And I don’t even dislike this, it’s just not really doing anything for me in the way The Beatles and The Stones do. I wouldn’t be able to pick it out as something recognisable, it could be any white man quartet from the 60s. It’s pleasant while I’m doing something else, but nothing is making me take pause and check the song title. But the further the album gets, the more I realise I’m actively bored and feel nothing. Nothing memorable except the title track.

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Oct 14 2026

I didn’t expect this Beatles record to be in here, but I’m not mad. It’s hard for me to separate their albums, having consumed so much of their music at once. This isn’t my fave Beatles record, but does contain some of my fave Beatles tracks. Listening to this after The Who, and this record came a year after, mainly just highlights the discrepancy between the two. There is no Beatles album in existence that doesn’t have at least a modicum of magic, and this one is no different.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz

This is cool and weird but nothing is really sticking out to me. It’s fine. It doesn’t sound like The Gorlilaz to me but that’s probably because I’m more familiar with the up tempo stuff. This is chill, which is a vibe, but idk if I’d ever come back to it.

I do not think I like this

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Oct 19 2026

This is too hard to find and the descriptions deeply repulse me. As does the cover. Reviews aren’t giving me the faith that this is worth the time, sooooo nah.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Oct 20 2026

I really struggle with the use of the slur ‘faggot’ multiple times in MFN: and the band’s subsequence defence of using it essentially in quotes. Why ruin a perfectly good song like that? Vocals get old for me, musically great. Love the clean guitar tones.
