Really good stuff, some classic songs I already knew and enjoyed my introduction to The Queen is Dead. Funky with fun lyrics and different emotions throughout. Really showcases Morrisey’s unique vocal style.
Top Tracks: There is a Light that Never Goes Out, Bigmouth Strikes Again, The Queen is Dead
Much more fun than I thought it would be. I can only imagine Billy Joel as an older man so wasn’t expecting to enjoy this so much. Good singalong songs and just really fun pop/piano led rock.
Top tracks: Only the Good Die Young, Movin’ Out: (Anthony’s Song), She’s Always a Woman
Not my favourite. The guitar playing is obviously fantastic, and the almost tribal drumming is fun but I found the whole album to be limited in its variation.
Top Tracks: Oye Como Va, Mothers Daughter.
I can appreciate the musicianship and clear talent that Prince has but it just doesn’t hit for me.
Some good tracks with some fun funk but it’s bloated and too much of the album sounds very similar, especially for the length. Not sure Prince is for me.
Top Tracks: Play in the Sunshine
I couldn’t finish it. Not my vibe at all.
Sounds like a fun occasion and no doubting the talent on show but not what I look for in an album. Not a genre I particularly know or understand, and a live album of it is not for me.
After the first couple of songs I thought this was going to be fantastic. This is my usual kind of music and I was excited to listen in full.
Ultimately, it was a little disappointing. I felt a bit bored halfway through and was quite glad when it finished. Very much the same vibe on each song and I’d grown pretty old of it by the end.
Could not get past the first 3 songs. Track one was 11 minutes of a repeated noise with small additions throughout the song but did not build up to anything worthwhile. I was bored by track 3 and could not bring myself to listen anymore.
A very accomplished record.
It’s fun, vibrant and showcases a lot of what Bowie can do. Mostly piano led with a few acoustic tracks and a couple of up tempo rockers but feels like a really complete album.
The hooks are great and kept me coming back to listen multiple times.
This album, in line with track number 2, is F.I.N.E.
Traditionally this is my kind of music. I liked about 50% of an Aerosmith Greatest Hits album when I was a teenager. I enjoyed about 50% of this album too.
It’s good fun bluesy rock and roll in the most part, but the lyrics have aged terribly and I found it difficult to move past that.
Top Tracks: Dulcimer Stomp/The Other Side, F.I.N.E.
Had heard Whole of the Moon before and it’s a reasonably good song. After the first 2 tracks I thought this was going to be incredible. However, the following songs tailed off and I could not finish the album.
Enjoyable enough but very much the same through the album. The fact that I couldn’t finish it says more about me than the album I think.
Top Tracks: Fisherman’s Blues, We Will Not Be Lovers
It was absolutely fine. Not a genre I particularly enjoy and it all feels so schmalzy to me.
Not denying the level of talent on show within the arrangements or that Ray has a stunning voice but just not for me at all. Pretty much my only exposure to this kind of music is on Christmas compilation albums so everything felt sprinkled with a bit of festive feeling, despite not one festive tune on here.
Quite good fun but not enough to hold me attention for long.
Not my kind of thing really, and its slide into strangeness throughout the album didn’t fit into what I enjoy in an album.
Not one that I’ll go back to but can respect the instrumentation.
What a strange journey I had with this one. Listened to it once, thought it was very ordinary and didn’t understand why it was on this list.
Listened to it again and started to hear little nuances and felt the atmosphere pull me in.
Listened a third time and thought it was the greatest album ever made.
A fourth a final listen had me settle somewhere between listens 2 and 3 - it’s a really enjoyable album.
Not my usual thing at all and my brain was expecting some sort of punch or massive hook - once I realised this wasn’t coming I enjoyed it much more.
This album is the perfect length, just long enough to engage me totally, not so long that it outstays its welcome.
Top Tracks: Norway, 10 Mile Stereo
Quite enjoyed the first track then the fun slowly and surely drifted away and I couldn’t finish it.
It all sounds fairly similar and I don’t particularly like that sound itself. Couple of decent tracks and obviously talented but not my cup of tea.
Top Track: Eight Miles High
Some funky baselines and maybe it just didn’t catch me in the right mood.
I don’t enjoy this genre of music and I either can’t pick up on the hooks or they’re just not there. Maybe I don’t know how to enjoy this type of music.
Couldn’t finish it as I was not enjoying it at all, but can appreciate that there’s plenty of talent on show.
It’s quite fun, some good beats and quite catchy but I can’t get past the majority of the lyrics and the little skits. I’m happy to admit that I didn’t enjoy it in full and I can’t imagine a scenario where I would ever go back to it. Ms Jackson is still a banger though.
Top Track: Ms Jackson
Quite enjoyed this one.
Never heard of the band before and after listening, I’m surprised as this is my genre definitely.
The album feels influential, in that I grew up in the 90s listening to nirvana, weezer etc and can hear moments where they could have been influenced.
Rockets are Red really caught me and Satin Down sounds like it was written by Trent Reznor.
Enjoyable, without blowing me away but I’ll definitely go back to it.
Top Tracks: Rockets are Red, Billy’s One Stop
A really lovely listen. Not my usual genre of music at all but Joan’s voice is lovely and the instrumentation behind her is great.
A thoroughly enjoyable listen and despite pretty much never listening to this kind of music, is one I’ll go back to for putting on in the background while I’m relaxing.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would.
Had heard The Passenger and Lust for Life before (hard to avoid as a Scottish person who lives where Trainspotting is set) and really enjoyed a lot of these tracks.
A lot less aggressive punk than I imagined and much more bluesy/funks - can also hear Bowie’s influence all through the album.
The less said about Sixteen the better but different times and all that.
Too Tracks: Lust for Life, Tonight, Neighbourhood Threat
Absolutely fantastic. Well aware of Thin Lizzy as a band but had only ever really heard Boys are Back in Town. Felt a small amount of dread seeing a live album as my proper introduction to them.
However, this album is brilliant. The songs are catchy, they sound flawless and are led by some really good vocals. The guitar solos sound fantastic and exciting and the tunes themselves make me wish I’d listened to Thin Lizzie years ago.. great fun and an album I’ll definitely go back to.
Top Tracks: Jailbreak, Boys are Back in Town, Cowboy Song
Nope. Not for me at all.
I like aggressive metal, I like raw punk, I like music that is a bit all over the place. Not this.
Incoherent and it all felt without purpose.
