1001 Albums Summary

Not my cup of tea.

Ive never been a fan of The Beatles or Paul McCartney, but this album was enjoyable. The instrumentation and arrangements were pretty fun. I wouldn't consider Paul a ground breaking songwriter by any means. Short, repetitive lyrics on these songs, but fun and catchy melodies, rifs, and reprises. Typical Beatles esque music.

I've never really sat down and listened to Portishead before. What an incredible album. Its haunting, moody, atmospheric, cinematic. Beth Gibbons vocals make it impossible to not pay attention and connect with. The production on this album is incredible. To me its like if you took The Roots replaced Black Thought with Lana Del Rey. My favorite songs on the album were Sour Times, Biscuit, and Glory Box. Not a single "meh" song on this entire album. 5 stars.

I love Frank. His voice is buttery smooth and the band arrangements, especially the horns, are always on point and enjoyable. This was not the right album to sit and listen to at work, however. I like hearing Frank in a movie soundtrack, during Christmas, or in a restaraunt. Listening to an entire album of Frank while sitting at work wasn't really a vibe. I probably wouldn't listen to a full Frank album usually in my free time. Great music though.

My dislike of Billy Corgans voice made listening to the entire album such a chore. The songs aren't bad by any means, but the whiny vocals are difficult to overlook when it comes to Smashing Pumpkins. 2.5 rounded down.
