I thought this album lacked entertaining music, which seems absurd because the whole point, I presume, is for each song to be entertaining at least in part. Some moments were fun, but all of it was a chore. I'll give some of my favorites a listen again, but I'm not sure why this was significant. Either way, I'm no big fan. This is what you recommend someone who can't stop listening to ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฎ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต๐ด and you want them to never listen to it again.

Steely Dan
I mean... I hate to say it but this album was not very entertaining, which has always been an important part of Steely Dan's first album in my mind. Not that the music isn't popularly entertaining, but that the music itself has little interesting instrumental parts. the lyrics seemed pretty straightforward. there was a bit to chew on here and there. I especially liked the line 'my baby's a pearl in the quarter' in 'Pearl of the Quarter.' But in general, kinda lackluster. kinda like they formulated the sound of their first album. 3/5 for being decent, but more like a 5/10.

Inspiration Information
Shuggie Otis
Upsettingly, spotify seems to have taken each song from another album. I'm willing to bet that the original albums records sound like they flow together, but this rendering from spotify doesn't. How can you mix cuts from remastered 2013 collections with original album versions of songs from '74? Of course its fucked.
Well other than those issues of disjointed moments, I really enjoyed the album. Did I think it was profound? Hell no. Do I really the tracks? Most. I think a lot of the music is something you can really sink your teeth into instrument wise. I wish some of the vocals were clearer, but that might be the cutting again. I also wish the instrumentals were more evenly distributed. Real OG shit though. I'm also biased because I really like Shuggie. His voice is very pretty. I have to give this album a 2.5 though, because the mix is just atrocious. I mean you can get better uniformity of quality on some low budget debut albums. Also because the song ordering needs help.

Tge music part was enjoyable and for a style of singin I generally dislike and cringe at, this was not offensive at all. Concept was kinda weak - seemed like it was just.... we're black! But given the time, I won't fully blame them. Anyway, it was entertaining at the least, but a 3 (really more of a 2.7) at the most.

Cheap Trick
I really hate this fucking album. Jesus Christ, Mary and Joseph I hate this album. Might I enumerate those ways in which thine sweet serenade doth fuckin piss me off? Listen close. First off, the singer has no soul. Like this nigga sounds like he isn't allowed to reveal that he's trapped in this band as a cosmic punishment for some heinous crime. Garbarge. that's one. Second off, this shit is literally - and I mean actually literally - not even partially artistic. Every song is boring. Every song is 100% predictable. Every song sounds like it was fabricated for the collective wet-dream of of the characters in that 70's show. wtf? This is fucking crazy. Bland as fuck, its like feeding my ears straight white rice cooked in distilled water. There's literally nothing here. And if you wanna get into the weeds, we can talk about specifics - incessant 4/4 shit-drumming; solos that sound 100% lackluster due to an unbelievable lack of tension, plus guitar solos that actually mimic real sounds in the world that are boring (the clock solo at the end is the ultimate example of this); The horribly awkward talking in the middle of most of the music: the 'i need some love' part was so bad it actually made a permanent change on my mood; How about that bass player? Talk about bullshit! He'snot doing anything. Take his ass out and replace him with a machine why don't you? And they shouted out that shitty drummer one too many times. That's two things. Now lets talk about the album as a whole. First off its live. Why? its worse this way. They are not exciting. They are not fun. They are not inspiring live. Their lyrics are harder to hear, which for me is a plus, but canโt be a plus for the crowd of 'women' - aka dads in drag or daughters who went to this concert to honor their dads or women who were looking for a hookup and 500 bucks and cocaine backstage. I genuinely can't believe that any of the women I heard in this crowd were there of their own free will, even if they think they were. I won't believe it, it'd be an insult to women. Classic Rock Dad, sure he's there. But wtf? In fact I'd like to see a phenomenological investigation of the aesthetic judgement of these women. The music was the equivalent of a 15 year old highschool mini-himbo (has-slept-with-4-young-women-and-thinks-hes-on-top-of-the-fucking-world-because-he-buys-ditch-weed-and-cries-to-cheap-trick-in-his-basement-while-his-single-mom-is-taking-out-the-trash-alone-...-again). That means it was also a work in neu-virility - you know? The whole 'Oh baby I need you so much and all my vulberable emotions are actually just expressed through my need to have a slam piece near me who doesn't hate my music' type shit. For women, its insidious self hate. For men, its right on the god damn mark. Either way, its lame af. That's three. Lyrically its about as mature as 5glo 10 years ago and sounds just as young on the ears. How can anyone justify basically talking about nothing interesting? Isn't tgis part of the rock corpus that old white guys point to to say music now is dying? How did these lyrics pre-empt the awkward, wan, inconsequentiality of modern lyricism, except without the very obvious cultural impetus for such a switch. Only song I had heard before was Surrender and they even made my hate that in this listen. Its actually almost artistic how trite the lyrics are. Sadly, they are clearly artless. 1/5, but really more like .9/10, the requiste score for 'music' in the broad sense. Harumph

I can't rate this without significant bias:
1) I'm coming right frim Cheap Trick which, in conparison, makes this look like gold.
2) The singer's voice is intoxicating in a good way. The kinda voice I'd rather hear sing, even if the music isn't... good.
3) Lovefool is on this album? Thats an insta point.
4) 'Your New Cuckoo' is particularly intoxicating.
5) The music part is not something I'm immediately comfortable just rating. Its multifaceted in ways that I'd need to be more attentive to. It is mostly entertaining to me though.
6) Its a... girlpop. so... I'm gonna have to say its just good!

Wow. Just wow. I was cery impressed with how gripping this album was. Very entertaining with lyrics that were very thoughful for pop and pretty thoughtful in general. Tge music was mostly excellent and but overall it kept me hooked until the last song. I think the key was the song order - she or whoever is responsible really payed attention to the pace of each song, choosing shifting both mood and tempo very quickly each time. Awesome. Its also an obvious classic. Fun time. 4

Whew. I mean, it was a classic album alright. Similar to lauper, but obviously more streamlined and connected, the flow was great and the style was cool. A few parts felt cheap but. .. seems like the point. I mean, you wouldn't call hollywood undead stupid right? Cause thats part of the point. So .... i mean it gets a 3 for sure. wasn't amazing, wasn't super good, but wasn't bad. obviously the lyrical content is another thing. I won't go into that mess.

American Idiot
Green Day
The Band should be self titled from this album because its definitely a snapshot of the American Idiot's thoughts for me. That's because I didn't grow up listening to Greenday. Indeed, I had only heard two songs on this album before. The songs I did hear I was heavily pressured or forced to listen to despite my unswervibg lack of care for this music. The people who did it - They are the American Idiots. White suburban angst shapes the American Idiot. The American Idiot only fucks like he's gonna die afterwards. The American Idiot thinks the beastie boys are 'awesome.' The American Idiot envisions his alleged dream girl in short skirt and a loooooooooooooooooong jacket. Oh the American woman wants a 'girl' alright. He also wants chips and dips for dinner; a daughter that's almost a tomboy; a local guitar center; The point is. I know the American Idiot, and in a lot of ways, the Idiot knows me too. In a lot of ways, I am the idiot, but in some crucial ways, not serious person should be him (he is necessarily male, let's be clear about that).
Well I thought the album was alright. I can almost see why its so beloved. Although, it isn't that far off from music that people have so quickly forgotten (except the American Idiots of course). Its a definite 3/5, but more accurately 6/10 (as in, it is four steps from a tops, rather than two. Fight me.

Innovative and fun for no longer than 3 minutes of any song. Which is a shame, because they had no clue that the songs were all wayy too long. Like Jay Z says, Less is more. Anywhore, what can I really say in light of the fact that its a classic album with wide influence. Like yes it sucks, but it was necessary for 808 and heartbreak.

Its clearly a great album, though it can feel affectively distant here and sonically long-winded there. Still big enjoyment. I don't think this work struck me as amazing, but I'm probably too far removed to be honest. What I can say is damn, he does make that guitar sing.
