Catchy from the get go, made me laugh. Positive vibrations sidhar :) A bit cringy. "Would you care for a lump of steak... or a piece of hake". You cringe and then you genuinely laugh. Some songs reminded me of Tim Mitchen or Bill Bailey. The longer it went on the less interested I became though. Maybe influential bringing 60s sound to young 80s kids. I won't be listening again though. Maybe a song or two but not the whole album.
It's clear why the group is called SIOUXIE and the banshees. Siouxie really takes centre stage and that's far from a good thing. Loved the arty intro track and simple yet interesting second track (which rocked). Great start to the album and I was really excited. However, by the end of Helter Skelter I was ready to turn it off. Her voice just starts to grate. It just feels like it lacks authenticity. It's all a bit of an act and an annoying one at that. It makes most of the songs unlistenable.
I was excited about this and wasn't disappointed by the opening track but after that I was underwhelmed. I understand in the context of the Newport festival and going electric that this album was probably interesting or important at the time but most of it just doesn't hold up for me personally. Left me feeling a bit flat. Also, the cultural references just annoyed me after a while. Bettie Davies said to Cassanova that Napoleon Boneparte would buy Bo Diddly's horse. Ok Bob. Add to that the predictable rhyme/rhythm of the lyrics and you get a meh from me. Some of the parts I enjoyed most were the harmonic solos because at least they were unpredictable.
Brilliant. Not just lyrically but musically and I found this surprising. I was expecting I'd need to really pay attention to the lyrics to appreciate this album fully but the music perfectly captures the mood and emotion of his lyrics and compliments his singing brilliantly meaning I could tune out every now and then and just enjoy the music. Will definitely be adding this to the listen again list and I'm sure it'll get even better with further listens.
You can tell it's quality and I enjoyed some of the songs but it's just not my thing so I gave it a 2.
This album really rocked in places. Lovely mix of 50s and 60s surf pop, garage and punk. Really interesting and catchy. They just made me smile and I love their voices. At times I thought, 'ah this is just silly' and their voices are really annoying. A couple of songs sounded like a really good version of The Wiggles. Overall I really enjoyed it.
"Did you know that Jeff Buckley's dad was a singer-songwriter too?" "No, I did not, I did not know that" "Yeah, his name was Tim" "Never heard of him..." And now we know why... :)
Trip down memory lane for me. Some really good songs on this album. Love the sound. 3 stars
There's a lot going on on this album. I was quite surprised how complex the songs were but in the end they weren't that strong.
Top album for 14 year olds
A weird weird album. Like a comedy album at times. Hated it at first but I grew into it a bit the more I listened. However, there were way too many songs and each song was much too short. In the end, not really my thing. I find the drum machine sound annoying after a while.
I really enjoyed this. Made me want to listen to Zeppelin III. Loved her voice. Great guitar work.
Jazzy jazzy soulful hippidy hop. I liked it but it didn't have enough for 4 stars. Will be checking out their other albums though.
Pretty good. Not pretty pretty good but pretty good. Reminded me of DJ Shadow. Complex interesting sound. I enjoyed the non vocal parts more than the vocals. Could be a four star with more listens
An album your grandmother would probably like. It's rock n' rock without the balls.
At first I couldn't decide if her 'Joey Tribbiani speaking French' was genius or stupid but in the end gets annoying. Having said that I still really like the music so it's a 3 for me.
Genius
Stonking opening track and then it ebbed and flowed after that but in an enjoyable way. Will defo listen again
Like the sound but too many weak songs.
Catchy. Even the weaker songs had something. I really enjoyed it but it's cheesy pop at the end of the day so it can't be more than a 3 from me
Meh. Didn't really give this one a fair listen. All I really noticed was her voice which sounded great.
I love this album and listen to it a lot. I wish I could give it a 4.5 because I can't give it 5. Not on the same level as 5 star albums
It's fine but Lizzy never really did it for me. I always felt like their sound lacked something. Soul, balls something. It sounds too polished or clean or something.
I had to listen to this twice to give it a fair review. Not really my thing but once I got over that you can hear the quality.
It might be a little harsh but I just didn't love the songs. I remember listening to his first album a few years back and I fell in love with it. This one not so much. I think it lacks the backing instuments
One from my teens. Enjoyed listening to it again after 25 years. Some weak songs but the good ones are still good
The whole album wasn't on spotify so it might be higher or lower than a 4. I loved it
I'd heard a few tracks before but it was nothing like this. I was dissapointed to be honest and didn't really like.
