Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes

I’ve never heard something like this before. I didn’t know really long soul songs was what I was missing. This could bring me to tears under the right conditions. I love when an artist/band takes their sweet time to flesh out their ideas, and Hayes does just that. There were times where elements were introduced into a song and I was physically pushed back into my bed. Sinking. This album made me feel like I was on a cloud. Good shiz

Kid A by Radiohead

It’s alright. I’ve heard this one a couple times before and I really want to like it because of the hype as well as my liking for Radiohead. I would expect the album known to be the most experimental Radiohead album (I think) to be at least ONE OF my favorites. But it’s one of my least favorites. I just find it fairly boring. I’m not in love with all of the sounds which could have been it’s saving grace. I’m sure it fits a certain situation perfectly but I haven’t been there yet haha. Hahaha robot sounds hahahaha

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails

Yeah I love this album. Any music that has this primal feeling automatically gets some serious points from me. Another example: AVA by Model/Actriz. It has all the things that I tend to love. It has beautiful abrasiveness. It has some very interesting rhythmic ideas. It has lyrics that actually pull me into them! You cannot zone out when Trent is on the mic. This album makes me dance like a stripper and then feel really bad about doing so. That’s special.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Feb 20 2022

Yes… there were times that I thought “hm, Radiohead did this better”. There were times where the preconceived prejudices I had of this band really DID show up. But! I thoroughly enjoyed this album. It brought me back to… to what? I’m not sure where I was transported listening to this but I felt it all over. Perhaps it reminded me of when I was 6 and really wanted to be 16. Back then, I had heard songs like “Yellow” and definitely felt something. I don’t think I knew what it was at the time, but I knew that songs like these were sentimental. I unfortunately had no sentiment to attach to those “nostalgic songs” because I was 6 haha. This album sounds like lying down on your high school’s football field with your new girlfriend.. listening to music on your iPod, sharing earbuds. I’m all for it.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Feb 23 2022

Super sweet :) I don’t have a whole lot of thoughts on this one, to be honest. I liked the music and I love how natural it felt. I have an affinity for that live feeling, especially when it’s as cozy as this album. Sarah Vaughan has a great charismatic charm and her adlibs are fun. I also LOVE her voice! In spite of all of this, I’m not head over heels about this album. The music, while pleasing to the ears, is not all that interesting to me. The best parts are when Vaughan breaks script and things break the fourth wall. I wish I had more to say about WHY the music wasn’t interesting to me but I wasn’t engaged enough to take notes. Good music to play in the background while chillin with people you love.

Sunshine Superman by Donovan
Feb 24 2022

Ay… it’s fun. I love Donovan’s voice. It’s not particularly unique sounding to me but it does what it does very very nicely. I think it compliments the more unique instrumentation as well. I don’t consume a whole lot of this genre so I don’t have a ton to compare it to. I love the songwriting. It has some great hooks but also more laid back atmospheric stuffs. I’d listen again. I could dance to it. I could chill with friends to it. I can play it for my grandma. This album makes me feel like a goblin who gave up stealing and now wears sustainably homemade jewelry.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Feb 25 2022

Meh.. There were some good moments. Some good grooves. Otherwise, I felt like it was pretty corny. Just seems like it didn’t age well? Maybe? Idk.. it didn’t seem super long even though it was an hour long. That’s a plus, by the way. I wanted it to end the whole time. I guess the universe answered me.

The White Album by Beatles
Feb 26 2022

Yeah it was good. Liked the production. T’was odd. Rocked hard in 68’. I’m really tired. The album was good. I’ve got blisters on my fingers.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Feb 28 2022

I started off really liking this album. I liked the chromatic melodies and psychedelic, poppy feel. The drums were incredible but didn’t show up as much as I’d like. Towards the end, though, I was frequently thinking to myself, “okay dude… I get it”. It seemed to become more and more a parody of itself haha. Good stuff, but falls off a bit. A high 3/5.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mar 01 2022

I am completely shocked right now. Leila, who is in my group, loves RHCP. I’ve always clowned on them. She made me listen to their music and I started at the beginning because I knew I liked their earlier stuff more. And it was great, I admit. Then… I reached this album. I hated it. I couldn’t even finish it. My complaints started and ended with Anthony. So damn annoying. That was only a few months ago. I’m not sure what changed but I actually enjoyed this album. 1: the production is awesome. I love it. 2: the instrumentals are (mostly) incredible. I already knew that going into it though. But now… the vocals. They are a lot more tolerable than I remember. It’s kind of…. camp. I learned that word from Leila. He’s still flat every once in a while but it’s not awful, nor is it frequent. I’ve always been a fan of his cartoonish rap style, though. So when there isn’t a melody, I’m diggin it. The LYRICS THOUGH OH MY LORD. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS DUDE TALKING ABOUT. Once again, though, I tried to tune it out and write it off as “camp”. I really think giving the album a fair shake helped me enjoy it so much more. Only cons: Lyrics, some pitchy points, a little bit bloated, under the bridge. I don’t care what any of you say. Under the Bridge is an awful song that should not exist.

Dookie by Green Day
Mar 02 2022

Super fun. Grew up on it so nostalgia definitely plays a part. I do love the production. All of the instrument sounds and tones are incredible. Everything else is just…. You already know. You al. ready. know. Put this on any day.

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Mar 03 2022

Good stuff!!!! Costello’s songwriting is proven here. Amazing melodies and song structure. The execution instrumentally was also top notch. The Attractions are tight as hell. The sounds weren’t great though :( Costello was way to far up front. I couldn’t hear super precisely what the rest of the band was doing. I got used to it pretty quick so it wasn’t distracting past the first few songs. It’s still a shame though because the instrumentals were clearly great. I wish I could really focus on them. I do really enjoy Costello’s voice but his accent is THICK on this one. With the vocals so far front in the mix, I’d like to at least sing along to the words. With his enunciation (or lack there of) I wasn’t sure what he was saying a good chunk of the time. That might just be a me thing, though. I’m sure his lyrics were good, too. Make me listen to them, or don’t. Don’t make me swim up stream. Either way, I didn’t feel like the album dragged at all (UNLIKE LEILA APPARENTLY). Everything felt appropriate and worth while. Only complaint is the mixing and some of the sonics.

Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues
Mar 04 2022

I had a lot of preconceived notions about this band. Even though I’ve only heard good things about them. Even though some artists that I really like are associated with them in one way or another. I knew that it was that Celtic, pub shit. I knew that it was merged with the punk rock mentality. When I think of that, I think of Dropkick Murphys. Well, needless to say, my ignorance was ill-conceived. This album was so cool! It’s still not my absolute favorite style or anything. The songwriting didn’t blow me away. Regardless, there were great songs, and the energy was palpable. I was smiling through most of it. I would love to dance to this. I’d listen again

Mar 05 2022

The production is incredible. The execution is incredible. I realllllllly wanted to dig tf out of this but maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood. I’ll definitely come back to this, but it’s a bit much, which is why I haven’t listened to it multiple times already. I will come back 100% focused. For right now, the songs just didn’t hit as hard as I’d like them to.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Mar 06 2022

Holy balls this was good. I’ve heard bits and pieces of it before but never got around to the whole album. What can I say other than DAMN. Funky as hell. When I’m not dancing like it’s my last day, I’m swaying from side to side with my arms extended like waving flags. I will 100% be going back, especially to play drums along with. The drums. Oh my god…

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Mar 07 2022

Listen to this album at full volume. This album neeeeeds its full dynamic range. I listened to the first half in class. I had it about half volume so I could still hear the lecture. I didn’t reallly care about what was going on in the album. I was kinda bored and wanted it to end. During passing period I turned it all the way up and BAM it was beautiful. I noticed the difference right away so I restarted the album. It’s so smooth. The harmonies are like butter. I feel like I’m being sung a lullaby. It is a very very serene album.

american dream by LCD Soundsystem
Mar 08 2022

This is the only LCD Soundsystem albums I hadn’t heard before. When I saw the recommendation I listened to it once but I was out of the house so I couldn’t dance. I figured I didn’t love it as much as other projects because I couldn’t really get into it physically, which other albums of LCD have called for. So I excitedly listened to it again, and started dancing. I made it half way through and turned it off. I was bored… Eh. I really really like LCD Soundsystem. I do. I really hope that their other albums are on this list because there is NO DAMN WAY that this beat out the others. Like another user said, it’s too “this” to be “that” and too “that” to be “this”. I want to dance, but it’s not groovy enough. I want to appreciate the weird post-punky guitar stuff that is more upfront than others albums. But they aren’t focused on enough. It’s in this really weird purgatory limbo situation. It just doesn’t have the vibe. It just doesn’t have.. the vibe. Still not offensive.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Mar 09 2022

I love you, Mike, but shut the fuck up please. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. There’s some awesomeness in this album, as well as some suck.

Is This It by The Strokes
Mar 10 2022

Don’t listen to me. This album has insane nostalgia armor. This album gets to my feels like few others. Take It or Leave It is one of the greatest songs ever.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Mar 11 2022

OOGH. Another childhood staple. Grew up on this one. This album is definitely one of the best in the style. Possibly THE best in the style. The style happens to not be my ALL TIME FAVORITE THING EVER IN THE WORLD. I really want to give this 5 stars but I don’t knowwwwww. I don’t feel blown away by it. I just don’t. It really is perfect. I have 0 complaints. But I just don’t feel blown away by how good it is. If I could play like any of these people I’d trade in the skin on my face. I’m sorry but 4. A really high 4. Maybe if I smoked. Idk. I’m sorry.

Wow… I do not give a fuck. Bass is cool sometimes though!!
