Late 2000s indie classic. Karen O is an all-time great frontwoman. Album cover made me hungry.
This was an artist at the peak of her powers and fully conscious of it. It's dense, but everything feels like it fits. And the hooks are tight despite how fluid her songwriting can be. I could listen ten more times and keep finding new things I love. Best album from this list so far.
This album contains some of Gaye's most personal and heartfelt lyrics. It's a shame the music is so comparatively underwhelming. Still, it's worthwhile as a snapshot of a tumultuous moment in Gaye's life and career.
This album doesn't sound fully realized, nor does it feel completely serious. But it's dark, immersive, irreverent, and probably inspired your favorite 90s band. Nothing to sneeze at, once you get over the weirdness.
A master at work.
Dad? Is that you?
A really unique, memorable album that has already proven quite influential
This album bridges the Beach Boys' early and later stages. The first half is youthful and upbeat, while the second is slow, anxious, and contemplative, foreshadowing the loss of innocence depicted on Pet Sounds. Overall, the individual songs don't feel like the band's strongest, but the album shows Brian Wilson moving in a more introspective, experimental direction.
"Dirty Work" is fine song. But I really do not like Steely Dan.
They have a unique sound. But this album could use some trimming.
One of the first concept albums, and one of my personal favorites. Perfect for those late, lonely nights.
Good Thanksgiving music
It's like shoegaze in that I cannot understand the words.
They were obviously inspired by Neutral Milk Hotel. But this music doesn't have the same intensity; it feels a bit watered down, and its enormous influence on 2000s indie music is somewhat of a tragedy. Still, there are some great moments, most notably "In the Backseat."
Big Dick Nick
I simply don't like this band. Turned it off halfway through and listened to Nas instead.
Bangers only
I loved this album when I was 13. However, I am no longer 13.
Perfect for a snowy day. I hope it snows.
Phil the Thrill
The best ES album. XO can suck my dick
Nice
I see why Janis Joplin is highly regarded as a performer. There is a lot of raw humanity in these vocals. However, the 70s blues rock sound is very boring to me.
Some great songs here. And this is some of EVH'S most focused guitar playing.
EZ 5 bby
These are some beeps and boops for sure
I looked at the tracklist, only to find that "West End Girls" is not on this album. It was only downhill after that.
