I Against I
Bad BrainsThis was not what I expected from the cover art. I liked it… not too 80s

haven't always been the biggest Costello fan but this is pretty good.
It's not my favorite Beatles nor early Beatles but ...it's still the Beatles. Don't Bother Me is a special surprise -- not sure I've heard it before .
Reading the article I was thinking this was a jazz album. It's not but certainly has some jazz influences. Maybe because of that and the African influences and certainly the themes of the songs (esp H2Ogate Blues and the title track), it reminds me of the masterpiece "Songs in the Key of Life" in some places, but certainly not as good. I didn't mind it but I probably wouldn't listen to it again.
This is a weird as what I thought a Velvet Underground album would be. I have listened to the previous one (with the banana) but not this one. The spoken word track was a bit over the top, but the last half of "Lady Godiva's Operation" took it to another level
I'm glad it's short... it's nothing special but maybe it was in 2008. In The Heat Of The Morning is a decent song.
weirdly reminds me of a lo-fi Talking Heads/David Byrne recording.
Hey there is a song on here I know! Love the bluesy songs... and who knew that Janis was in a band before she was solo? This a surprisingly great album.
I've realized that I've listened to the Pretenders a lot but have just felt they have a generic early-80's sound. I still do. "Stop Your Sobbing" is a pretty decent song. Brass in Pocket I have heard a lot. I realize that when this was released it wasn't just generic 80's music but here we are
This is not my usual genre of music and honestly I've never heard of it or her (which doesn't surprise me one bit) but the production is fantastic and so Keela's lush voice. The lyrics um, could make me blush
This is not the first time I've heard this album but it has been a long time. While Birdland is by far it's most famous song, and now a jazz standard, this is not my favorite song on the album -- that is Rumba Mama, which is really too short but is also the most traditional jazz song on the album. But that may be my problem... I like more traditional jazz or bebop and not the 70's fusion jazz that this album has. If someone asked me to list some great jazz albums, this would not be on the list. It's not bad...just not my thing.
The not Wilco album I'm used to but it's still good.
I have never heard of this album or band before and frankly, I had low expectations but it's better than I thought it would .
Big Star is known as "the most influential band you've never heard of." I'm pretty sure I have listened to this album before. I will say that it sounds more like a 90's album from someone like Blink 182 or Teenage Fanclub than from the 1970's.
An album I actually know! Fake Plastic Trees is my favorite Radiohead song. I know people that feel that Radiohead went "full weird" after Kid-A. I don't agree with that but I would listen to this again and again. It certainly has a bit of a Coldplay vibe to it. In a good way
I’ve never been a huge Rolling Stones fan but this early work is different. Who knows they started with cover songs?
I mean this is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Stevie at his best. So many different styles, so many different themes in the lyrics and yet everything flows. Tremendous album. would give 6 stars if I could
This is ...fine. Nothing that special. I've heard better late 80-early 90's albums
I've heard of Pavement and was expecting something more industrial. Again this reminded me some mid-90's grunge-like pop (Weezer) or even a bit of Joy Division.
I've always said that Dylan's songs are better when someone else sings them. But there are some great songs on here, my favorite is Tangled Up in Blue (though I like The Whitlams version better)
Again, I've never been a big Rolling Stones fan but I like the bluesy, southern rock feel this album has. And Sympathy for the Devil is a great song.
I cringed when I saw Leonard Cohan… like Dylan, I think his songs are better when someone else sings them. This was better than I thought. Slow ballads. Poetic lyrics with stark music. Very country-like. The Partisan and Bird on a Wire
I think I would have enjoyed this when it came out but it's nothing special now
I can totally see how this is an influential 80's album. Really has a classic early-80's sound. I mean I grew up listening to Don't You Want Me. I think this album was fine
Really a great live album! I think the sum is bigger than the whole
wasn't expecting this to be country-type album. Very 70's. It's fine...not sure why it's on this list.
I got sick of hearing Bittersweet Symphony when it came out but it's grown on me now.
As this album goes on I get "considered by critics to be influential in originating the musical genre of psychedelic rock."
I was never a Green Day fan so it colors this.
What a voice! There is more to this album than the cover of Hallelujah.
Very 80's feel which is amazing for a 1993 album. I surely didn't listen to this in the midst of the grunge and alternative out during this time but I would have liked it then. But now? Seems a bit aged
