Bob Marley & The Wailers
still not super into Bob Marley, but I think I understand Reggae a little better than I did when I was younger. The groove is strong, but I'm still not super into the relatively simple structures and production style of the genre. My favorite tracks were No Woman No Cry and So Jah S'eh.

I wanted to dive into this album, but 3 tracks in, all I was able to get out of it was, "yup, that's metallica". I think I don't have the background in metal to appreciate the nuance here, or maybe it's just a vibe-based album that doesn't click with me.

I feel like this album was a lot easier to love back in the 90's, much of the soundscape seems focused on that patented 90's 'tude. By the end of the album I was able to get into the groove a bit, but it seems to just end abruptly on the track "milk"

oh man, this might've been really fresh in the 70's, but it really doesn't do it for me. The track Mercedes Benz has some real stinky boomer energy going on, a very shallow hippie-centric view of materialism, and very little going on otherwise. Joplin's musicianship with her voice has some interesting things going on, but it's really not for me. Didn't hate it, tho

It has a good groove more or less throughout the album, and has much more interesting textures and forms than the recent albums from this era we've been listening to.

Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
The Pharcyde
a solid rhythm section, and generally pretty agreeable rapping, even if it's very dated and saturated in black urban culture. I'm not huge into hip hop, but I can get down with this. some of the timbres and textures work really well, and help to elevate it past just being everyday hip hop. 3.5/5

boomer rock. I tried to appreciate it, and learn to understand the stones a bit better, but I left with the same impression I came in with; the stones have a groove, and most of their music just stews in it.

KGATLW by way of beach boys. I liked the timbres, but structurally it isn't particularly nuanced. The vocals lean very heavily into the beach boys Brian Wilson sound, and it works as background music, but it gets very samey. Otherwise, a good groove throughout.

unadulterated punk. the vocals are a little more english than I appreciate, even coming from a cantubury prog fan, but I think it's more to do with the hard twang of working class englishmen. I'd rather listen to the dead kennedys, but I can respect what this album does.

man, this sounds like the beatles, if they were streamlined into a singular direction, but I've never thought that the beatles would benefit from being streamlined. Maybe if I engaged with the lyrics more, I might appreciate it more, but it doesn't have the same structural and harmonic interest of things like ELP's From the Beginning only 2 years later.
Like Marshmallow Fluff, it does exactly one thing, and doesn't leave me sated.

this album really signifies a clear midway point between the early Genesis works of prog geinus in Selling England by the Pound and Foxtrot, and the later Gabriel/Collins pop hits. We have the misty, reverb-heavy drums of \"In The Air Tonight\", while still having structures and chord progressions reminiscent of Gabriel's earlier works.

a bridge between blues/psychedelic rock and the harder heavy metal that came after, this album was a fun listen, but I didn't really a whole lot of contrast between the songs.

this one really seems to be more about the lyrical storytelling, but the harmonies, melodies, rhythms, and timbres just don't do it for me. It's a little too homogeneous and simple, seemingly in an effort to put focus on the lyrics.

The soundscape on a Tangerine Dream is always lovely, with really intricate and balanced synths, but I always feel like something is missing, especially in the overall form of each track, and the album in general. It's like sitting in a aural hot tub; a good place to chill, but don't expect it to take you on a journey
