1001 Albums Summary

I’ve never been much for jazz piano, and with little background info the first part of this concert felt unremarkable. But upon reading about the significance of this album, the out of tune piano, Jarrett’s late arrival, his few bites of pasta, and his playing changing based upon the condition of the only instrument he was able to rely on- this quickly changed to a remarkable show. Jarrett’s playing, while something that I am admittedly not well versed in, was beautifully improvised and transcends the classical jazz piano that one would expect with a number of grooving “bass lines” coupled with his wandering right hand.

I understand the significance, and I suppose through the lens of one who got to witness this album in its heyday, this was groundbreaking. I just feel like everything U2 has done has now been done much better. Also that one episode of South Park has eternally tarnished Bono for me.

Rocks. Less critically acclaimed (I believe) than the majority of the other white stripes records, this bends genre from rock to blues into psychedelia at times. Real pleasure
