fun, punchy, love how clear the theatrical style and structure is even on first listen. from a purely sonic perspective it's a no-skip album; i do understand the critiques that say as far as protest music goes it's a bit limited in scope and in some songs the anger can seem directionless.
i wish i could give half stars because to me this is a 3.5. lent a cinematic quality to my morning bus ride and had me tapping along to the beat many times. haven't done a deep listen but i can appreciate it for what it is, and that's rambling and sexy and fun! the entire spanish castle magic to you got me floatin run stood out to me.
lyrically sooooo boring and shallow but i can't deny it has some bangers. sounds better if you imagine an epic gaelic vampire battle happening.
favorites: children of the damned, hallowed be thy name
least favorites: the prisoner
at first i was surprised i hadn't heard this album but now it makes sense cause it really didn't blow me away...i do love alex turner's voice i just think cage the elephant made this exact album but slightly better a couple years later.
favorites: the age of the understatement (LOVE the western vibes), in my room, the meeting place. the others sort of blend together
this was actually very good but one of the public reviews was so annoying it made me want to take off stars. my biggest takeaway is that rock lobster is both way better and way longer than i thought it was.
like always, the first half of the album is all i really remember so those songs are probably my favorites. special shout-out to dance this mess around which made me strangely melancholy
rolling stones i owe you an apology...i was not familiar with your game. obviously gimme shelter lives up to the hype, and the overall honky-tonk vibes were a pleasant surprise. really strong opener and closer but honestly i also really liked everything in between!!
faves: gimme shelter, love in vain, you got the silver
this being a lowkey concept album (maybe a better term is caricature album) is doing a lot of heavy lifting to get them out of "the girls i like are underage." lol. still undeniably full of classic bangers, very strong for a debut album. when will this website let me give half stars!!! 3.5!!!!
faves: no sleep till brooklyn, posse in effect, slow and low (but slow and low, hold it now hit it, and time to get ill kind of all sound like the same song to me)
maybe it's cause i was busy showering while listening to the first half but i found this sort of boring. the songs i did like made me think "i wish i was listening to deftones right now instead"
faves: dirt, down in a hole, junkhead
playing this game is so fun cause i get to listen to albums and go "oh, that's where this song is from!" i've heard so many of the tracks on this before...granted i didn't like most of them in the context of my retail job soundtrack but i enjoyed it much more this time.
i don't have any other deep thoughts or faves from this really i just thought it was a nice little pop rock album
i fucking love this album cause it's really all of the stuff i'm into. anti war sci fi folklore apocalypse music, has depth but is also just easy to rock out to. some of the most recognizable riffs ever.
faves: war pigs, planet caravan, fairies wear boots
i don't really care about the lyrics cause he mumbles too much for me to understand them anyway
faves: a rush and a push, i started something, stop me
the reviews for this were soooo mixed but i thought it was pretty fun. maybe i'm just biased towards the fiddle
i listened to this like five times while writing and it was perfect background music. very soothing but a couple of the songs are legitimate bangers as well
i wanted to like this a lot more than i did...avalanche was a strong start but it got boring after that
rlly good sorry i'm sick and working through a bunch of these i missed. favorites are probably pretty baby and will anything happen? might need another listen to settle on it
sorry manic street preachers i wasn't familiar with your game!! i really wish i could do half star ratings cause this is definitely a 3.5 for me. not particularly groundbreaking but very listenable. faves: kevin carter, interiors
i'm not sure how often i'll find myself reaching for this to listen to but i did enjoy it! listened while plodding to work in the pouring rain and that felt like the right way. faves: down by the river, cowgirl in the sand
one of the greatest to ever do it...the singles from this album go so crazy hard. incredibly nostalgic for me. faves: you know i'm no good, some unholy war
i vaguely remember my mom introducing me to this album in middle school and while i've kept a few tracks on heavy rotation, it's been a long time since i revisited the whole thing...what a huge mistake on my part cause this is soooo good. beautiful arthurian fairytale all mixed up with cyberfunk excellence. and the STRINGS!! faves: sir greendown, come alive, wondaland
