"I keep my underwear up with a piece of elastic I use a bullshit mic that's made out of plastic To send my rhymes out to all the nations Like Ma Bell I got the ill communication" Forgot how MINT this album is, made my Monday morning commute 1000x cooler
Reckon I'd have been into this when I was a teenager but it just wasn't really doing anything for me as a grown ass 35 year old woman. I found the vocals a bit grating and some of the songs felt a bit repetitive and lazy (in my opinion). Or maybe I'm just a philistine+
Morrissey reminds me of growing up so will always be fond of a few songs on here (the national front disco, you're the one for me fatty, seasick yet still docked, tomorrow...) but if we're talking 1001 best albums of all time, his work on any/all of The Smiths albums are more deserving of a place here in my humble opinion!
Not even my favourite Radiohead album but it easily deserves 5 stars, that's how good they are!
Really not my bag. Made it through 2 songs and completely lost the will to live. Soz
I'm a fan of some of PG's later stuff, but I listened to this album on a treacherous rainy and dark drive across the moors at 6:45am and it just completely sent my head west. I'll try again another time
Ahhh this takes me right back to being a teenage goth, I bloody love all of their 80s era albums and this is arguably their best one. "Lullaby" was one of my favourite songs growing up and I still love it now.
Enjoyed this more than I expected to. Reminiscent of sipping vermut in a packed Madrid bar at 1am, shame I was working on spreadsheets on a freezing winters morning in Yorkshire at the time!
Will never stop loving this album. I've been trying to learn several songs on for about 15 years and still haven't completely mastered it, the man is one of my all time guitar heroes. I'd give this album 6 stars if I could
Not to be contrarian, this is an okay hip-hop album, but Gangsta rap is sorta overrated in my opinion. I think there's some progressive Early 90s era albums that are more deserving of a place on this list - A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul etc - but opinions are like bumholes, everyone's got one and they're probably full of shit most of the time!
All round nice album, not something I'd normally listen to but enjoyed it
I liked this a lot more than I expected, their most well known songs have always turned me off ("Tambourine Man" is like listening to a depressed drunk version of the Beatles, bleurgh). But this album had some good surprises - "what's happening?" and "psychodrama city" have ended up on my Spotify favourites playlist. Can hear how they influenced a lot of 90s American indie bands, amongst many others I'm sure
My gateway to discovering Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was Jeff Buckley's cover of "Yeh Jo Halka Saroor Hae" on the Live at Sin-é album. And as soon as I listened to "Love & Devotion" all those years ago I could immediately hear the influence in Jeff's music. Nusrat's huge voice is unlike anything I've ever heard, and the arrangements on this album are mind-blowing. This isn't an album, it's a journey!
Loved this!
Wasn't a fan of this when it came out (20 years ago? Wtf happened?!) - I was working at HMV at the time and it got absolutely rinsed to death. Fair play they've probably made a killing from all the royalties over the years, countless cover versions and advert music etc. But christ, their music bores the hole off me
