1001 Albums Summary

Not terrible. Kind of relemtless. Bluesier than I expected in some of the non-radio songs.

More than 10 million copies of this album sold. And we found WMDs in Iraq. Norah Jones has a lovely voice. Some of the tracks had instrumental parts I liked. Then, immediately after this album finished, Spotify queued up “Feelin’ Good” by Nina Simone. Which I thought was just downright unfair.

Meh. Imagine if a song could actually inspire change rather than assuage guilt. I don’t love the title track and I didn’t really like anything else either. Actually, Gimme Some Truth was the only one that jumped out.

It was ok. The first maybe four songs were really good. Definitely falls off towards the end.

For me, nothing on this album reaches the thrashness of Four Horsemen or the progressiveness of Master of Puppets or the heaviness of The Thing that Should Not Be or the artistry of Orion. …And Justice for All is in my opinion a transitional album that bridges the 80s Metallica sound and the gentler made-for-the-radio Metallica of the 90s. One is a great song. This album still rocks pretty hard. Just not as much.

This is too long by a few skits. But wow are the good songs really good. It’s the freshest sounding hip hop album to my ears since Enter the 36 Chambers. Will definitely listen to this album again.

I really liked about half of this album. And it's pretty obvious that this was a massive influence on most, if not all, of the alt rock (grunge) of the early 90s. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pavement - they're all in here. This album generally sounds really great: lots of distortion but great melody and some killer riffs. Really loved the cover of The Cure.

That was a damn fine album. I have no idea why I like it so much but I’ve listened to it several times. I don’t care for the opening radio hit but wow the next four songs are so good.

Amazing. Her voice, her playing, the emotions. Lilac Wine is an absolute highlight. It’s an all-time great and I can’t believe I’m hearing it for the first time. I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard a composition that was as complex. I listened to the album twice in a row. Six stars.

Maybe 15 years ago I would have loved this album. It’s not for me now.
