Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
Feb 03 2024

A lively collection of music drawing on a myriad of stylings and genres, led by the gravelly voices of palpable characters. Captivating instrumentation carries throughout, matching Wait's voice as he goes off-kilter here, heartfelt there. Lyrically, the album often reads as nonce poetry, but the more blues-aligned tracks seem to stick harder to convention. Favorite tracks include "Clap Hands", "Downtown Train" and "Jockey Full of Bourbon".

Heroes by David Bowie
Feb 13 2024

Not great. The lack of forethought is apparent on this pretentious, off-kilter album. There are moments where good musicianship come through, though notably not in the lyrics, but too often these are spoiled by some decidedly not-bodacious sounds. The ambient half provided nice respite from Bowie's awful vocals even though they sometimes felt aimless and repetitive, but I thoroughly enjoyed the calm of Moss Garden. The rock sections were tepid at best, but often strayed into realms of tonal misdemeanor. The importance of the experimental nature of the album was lost on me. 2/5

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Feb 14 2024

An enjoyable mix of moody, upbeat, jangly, sonorous, and smooth songs blended into a bang-up pop album. 4/5

My Generation by The Who
Feb 23 2024

Classic rock for the north bay

Pornography by The Cure
Feb 28 2024

A more-or-less one-note trance diving deeper into the depths of depression. Good background music for shooting up, probably. 3/5

Make Yourself by Incubus
Mar 01 2024

Not my cup of tea, but once in a while I don't mind taking a quick sip from theirs.

Mar 04 2024

A country ballad about teens, a jazz instrumental, and name-dropping Santa Rosa.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Mar 07 2024

A long album. Plays nicely in the background. Would listen to in the background again

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Mar 13 2024

Great sampling and production, clever lyrics, and West Coast vibes

Mar 27 2024

Earmarking an era of cowboy fantasy, Marty croons simple cowboy songs with great emotion and locomotive guitar. Stand out tracks: "Big Iron", "The're Hanging Me Tonight", "El Paso", and "The Master's Call".

Kid A by Radiohead
Mar 28 2024

Enjoyable ambient?
