Doolittle
PixiesKinda weird. Sometimes sounds like delirium. Unusual chord progressions, partly punk, partly alternative. Not my cup of tea.

If pink fur or plush was music, this would be it. Sounds like straight from porn. Nice songwriting, excellent drums, beautiful melodies... but it made me kind of horny.
Nice album, I really like the voice on beauty and the beast. But the two halves of the album don't seem to match, they're so different. Now I understand why Christiane F. Once said, that a Bowie concert had something to do with her heroin addiction. Kind of weird but I would listen again.
Half an hour of improvisation. Great musicianship, but for not jazz lovers quite hard to understand. A mood thing and you have to be fully concentrated to appreciate it.
Kinda felt like a trip to another time. On one hand nice melodies and nice story telling. On the other hand, it gets quite repetitive after half the album. No ups and downs, no really good or bad songs, and also the mood nearly stays the same. Worth a listen, but only once.
Now that's what I'm talking about. Funk, Soul, R&B. Nice album with a good mood. I love the bass lines and the guitars here, and it all just grooves. Definitely gonna listen to it more often.
It's difficult to describe. Musically, I don't think this album is really good. Of course, I'm keeping in mind that these are basically only demos. But emotionally... I never heard something like this. Even though these are not perfect songs, Skip seems to have put everything into them. And at the same time, over the course of the album, it feels like a view into his broken mind, and his mental health seems to even be deteriorating slightly towards the end. The voice at the end, saying "We're out of tape" pull him back to reality, as well as the listener. Can't make my mind up. Interesting listen.
Well, classic stones. Mother's Little Helper was nice, and as problematic as Under My Thumb's lyrics are, as nice is the instrumental. Felt like the second half wasn't as good as the first one. Paint It Black would have been nice. And Going Home was way, way too long. All in all... not bad but also not outstanding
I have to admit, I'm not that big of a fan of this album. It's nice and all but, personally, I think the songs are way too long for what they have to offer. Metallica tried a little more prog on this one, but in the end the songs are something in between, half thrash, half prog, but none of them in earnest. Shortening the songs would have been a good idea do let the drive stay in the album. And, although the bass drum is really banging quite nicely, there is little to no bass in the mix. This makes it sound a little thin and tinny. Metallica has better albums before and after ...And Justice for All
This is really not my cup of tea. The whole album sounds kind of pretentious, as if the band wanted to appear sophisticated, without really being so. And above all is the wailing voice of the singer, who always sounds like he's in sever pain. Personally, I don't really see, why this album was so well received when it first came out. It's neither something new, nor something special
It doesn't get more 60s than this album, complete with some elements of Indian music. Best song would be the opener "Sunshine Superman". I really liked it, have to listen to it again.
Not particularly bad, but quite dull. Nothing more to offer than melancholy. A little like Oasis without balls. Could be the soundtrack to Grey's Anatomy or something like that.
I liked it. The unisono parts of brass and horns hat a certain power to it and all in all it was really groovy. Nice protest songs and quite impossible to ignore.
I absolutely didn't like this one. I'm not really into electronic music, but I like some things. But this... it may work on a rave or something like that, a live setting. But on a record, it just doesn't work. Like some other albums I really don't understand, why this one is included on this list.
Sounds like a musical, without the musical. Seems like Wainwright couldn't make up his mind, if he wanted to write pop or something more like chansons, so he created this weird mixture. An on top is his voice, which sounds in low registers like his face was numb while singing. It's not particularly bad, but quite over the top.
I liked it. It quite sounded like CSNY, so no surprise I liked it. "Southern Man" might be my recommendation. And how can a Canadian sound more like "USA" than some musicians from the States?
Just beautiful. Like sitting on a campfire and listening to an old storyteller. Not overly complicated or anything, just pleasant. I really liked it
It wasn't particularly bad but quite forgettable. Seems like music for people who don't really like music. That might explain why it stayed in the charts that long.
Very interesting. It could be just a little bit more, in some places I missed a little something, but all in all I liked it. This eerie voice on top of something similar to hip-hop beats... I really kinda liked it
I love it. Jimi was a genius on the guitar at that time and a good songwriter too. And Mitch Mitchells drums are unbelievable. Can't got wrong with this album. Only, some songs are a bit too long. But all in all 5/5, a very pleasant "experience"
Musically, it was fine. But it just didn't click with me. I like country sometimes, but in this case I just missed a little something. Nevertheless, it's not a bad album
Seriously, it was a bit boring. A few good riffs, but all in all just mediocre. Goes to show Kiss are more the show and the image than their music
Half an hour on full speed. They're really thrashing through this album. QUite good but I cant listen to it often.
It's hard to tell. It's Bob Dylan, one of the best singer-songwriters. Nice guitars, and more like a storyteller than a singer. On the other hand, there were no songs that really stood out to me. I just finished listening, and except for the last notes of the last song I don't remember anything. Maybe I have to listen to it more carefully and pay more attention to the lyrics. But for now its just... medium
I have to admit, I would have liked an older album of John Lee Hooker better. It felt a little bit like trying to keep something alive, which just didn't fit into the times anymore. That said, it was not a bad album. Classic blues (except maybe for the first song which had a more latin-y feel) and the perfect length. I was just wondering, when it would be finished when the last song ended. It's an album for blues people. If you like blues, you're probably going to like this album. On the other hand, if you don't like blues, it won't convince you otherwise.
The second Metallica Album on my List. Personally, I'd have chosen something else. It was a nice experiment and it mostly worked, but I think, Metallica's songs are just not suited for this, except maybe for Nothing Else Matters. Sometimes the orchestra was overpowering the band, and though some songs sounded more epic and akin to a movie soundtrack, most songs lost some of their feeling and character to the epicness and the embellishments of the orchestra. Songs like Battery oder Master of Puppets are as good as they are because of their simpleness and in-your-face-attitude. This was completely lost by inflating it with unnecessary strings and horns. All in all not a bad album, but except for a very few, Metallica songs are just not written for orchestral use.
It was interesting. I quite liked it, the instruments were very well played. I think, I have to listen to this again some time. It somehow got to me
I don't know if I like this album. Fugazi were very influencial, but this is sometimes difficult to listen to. I see why many bands reference them, but I don't really like it.
Was this album particularly good? No. The first half was okay, the second half very bland. Is it overflowing with rock 'n' roll clichés? Oh, hell yes Over produced? Certainly Did I like it? Partly But seriously, I agree, it's not the best album, not even the best by Aerosmith. But it's not as bad as some people here believe it is. I think you should just not take them seriously. I don't know if the band themselves take them seriously (but if they did I'd probably check their mental health). What I don't understand is, people praise bands like Steel Panther left and right and run to their concerts like moths to the light, but at the same time they talk shit about Aerosmith. Not to defend Aerosmith but some people here definitely need a reality check. All in all a mediocre but entertaining album. Nothing really good, but acceptable.
It was 80s. And boring. Like pieces of other 80s bands and songs stitched together, but without the interesting parts. The singer sometimes reminded me of Ian Astbury of The Cult but with less expression. All in all quite forgettable
Wanted to say that this might be the perfect soundtrack to a relaxed drive at sunset. Then I heard "Behind The Wall". It was harrowing. I loved it, the pain, the emotion. This album will definitely stay in my rotation
Me: "Can we have the Strokes?" Mum: "We already have the Strokes at home" These are the Strokes at home. It's not particularly bad, but also not really good. Nothing special for the time. But at least better than their later records.
Liked it better than I thought. Some songs were really good but it was a bit too long.
A fine example for Brit Pop. I like it, but What's the story morning glory was better
Interesting but definitely not my thing. But I liked the gritty production
I liked the beats and the flow. A little dumb and childish, kinda like blink-182 for hip-hop
The samples are nice, as a classic rock fan there's always something familiar. But the voices... one hour of shouting in my face... really not my thing.
This is an interesting one. Definitely not what I expected. I couldn't say, that I really liked it, but on the other hand it was quite a ride hearing al these samples in a completely new context. It's not going to be my new favourite, but I found it entertaining to listen to. Only it was a bit too long.
The opening set quite an interesting tone, and I didn't know what to expect afterwards. This seems like the kind of album you have to listen to several times, because there is too much going on to recognise on the first listen
It's Korn, all right. A classic, and as with most of the nu-metal genre, I suppose it's kind of a guilty pleasure for many. It's not bad, but quite repetitive after a while. And again, way too long. The last ten minutes were quite a stretch
Hip Hop is definitely not my thing. But this was really good. I loved the beats, the vintage feeling with vinyl crackling and I loved the flow of the lyrics. I had a really good time listening to this
Nothing new, but quite nice. I felt, there was more inspiration drawn from Alice in Chains than from Nirvana. All in all a decent Garage Rock Album, screaming of the early 2000s
