Bar 2 tracks, this is a flawless album. There is a light that never goes out is one of my favorite songs of all time… it represents one of the few cases when the artist’s most famous song is their best. Johnny Marr is in his creative peak here in my opinion.
This album encapsulates the sound of classic rock. Not the type of music I would go out of my way to listen to, but I enjoyed nonetheless. The top half of the album is the stronger one in my opinion, however, you can feel the sound of quality musicianship and songwriting all over the record. Overall, this was the first stones record I listened to and it’s safe to say that I like it!
Sooo… this record sounds and feels ancient. You can tell why it was so influential as it literally gave birth to psychedelic vibes in rock music. Furthermore, the melodies in how do you feel have almost dreampop-ish vibe and the chords in embryonic journey sound like they were pulled from some random country song. White Rabbit is incredibly overrated and I don’t get its appeal, though I understand it’s importance. The last track was interesting and sounded ahead of its time. I did not enjoy the album at all however and don’t intend to listen to it ever again.
I discovered that folk music is not for me either, much like psychedelic rock. However, I did enjoy the album’s second half a lot, to the point that I was sad it was over. The album makes me feel conflicted, whilst the wishy-washy, goody-two-shoes melodies and vocal delivery are too overwhelming and tiring for me, I can not help but to appreciate the rich influence of African music.
Desert/blues sounding rock is not for me either, as it turns out. Bar a few tracks, the album felt a bit same-y to me. However, I enjoyed Dan’s vocal performance and the almost crooning-like sounds he made, which are not exactly typical for blues rock. 3.5/5
Effortlessly American. I loved the saxophone solos Springsteen threw in, as it was not something attributed to rather brutish and bravado leaning American rock. Good album but I personally didn’t find it appealing. 3.5/5
Finally something that is more up to my alley. The vocal harmonies here? Exquisite. The production? Great for its time. I’ve heard of more complex music in my life but the passion, the attitude, the delivery? More than makes up for it. Also, soul singers made 10 minute songs before those progressive rockers ever did!
Very good, also very preachy. Still loved it though.
This is the sound I think of when someone brings up GTA: San Andreas. Great production, very musically engaging. The subject matters don’t personally appeal to me, but there is no denying that this album accomplishes it’s set goals.
Perfect album for cloudy nights. He was probably very depressed while recording this album
My favorite album so far, loved the vocals, loved the ambient vibe. Will listen to this often again I’m sure
Tonight, tonight is a freaking banger. Very 90s, I liked it. Can’t say that I’ll ever go back to listening to it much though.
Great fucking album. Literally gave birth to matt bellamy and thom york as vocalists. Thank you, Jeff!
Ok, without you is a classic. Last two tracks are also good. The rest is goody two shoes cringy stuff.
Freaking banger. I’m watching attack on titan as I listen to this, thematically very matching, isn’t it?
This made me appreciate nick drake. I will certainly come back to his albums so this is more of a placeholder score. Hauntingly beautiful!
I had a gut feeling that a familiar album would show up today…. This is one of my favorite albums of all time, end of story.
Another album I’m familiar with. Fiona’s worst by far though. Contains some of her biggest hits but I find the entire album a bit too held back?
Bowie really made the best of his drug addiction. 8.5/10
4.5. Would make a great dystopian anime soundtrack!
Pretty nice, a bit headache inducing if played all at once
