1001 Albums Summary

My college roommate, a noise music enthusiast, electric guitarist and hardcore vegan use to listen to this album. I appreciated that at that age he knew it wasn't everybody's cup of tea. He never pushed it on me. However I use to listen to Control and New Dawn Fades. The intro to those songs still capture my ears years later. It is now at a much older age and having learned to play guitar that I think I understand why he was such a big fan. It's a sonic landscape that he escaped onto.

The Blues is an interesting genre. It has its markers, the I IV V progression, the shuffle mimicking a pulsing heart, the wails and call and response. Having listened to it for most of my life in 3 different languages I've always been fascinated how this African American export finds its way into the speaker boxes across the world. This album is no exception. It's a master class in Blues rock and roll. I'm not fond of number ratings, they've never made sense to me since music is subjective. My impression of this album is, it's a Blues album done in a British way. It has a sophistication to it that is contrasted with the spaced out dirty over drives of the lead and rhythm guitars. The drums swing, go straight and at times waltz. Great album overall.

Breaking the law is like an old friend you've lost touch with over the years. You make plans to meet up again. You're unsure how it's going to go and the very first rift you start lifting like you use to. Your friendship is just as fun as you remember it and you promise to meet again, but for real this time.

I mean, I do remember being a teenager and I probably would have connected with these songs.

Beautiful lyrics. A lyrical tapestrie of the working class life in America.

I think when I hit my 40s or 50s I'll listen back to this and have a different appreciation. I liked it now but I get sense that this is an album that grows with the listener.

It was ok Not my cup of tea but I did enjoy some songs.
