At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
May 14 2024

Sounds really good for a live album from 1960. It’s also interesting hearing so many sounds and ideas I tend to associate with “blues” from something this early. Good album.

Stardust by Willie Nelson

Amazing album. The lyrics/songwriting are really tight and funny and do a great job of capturing how getting into bars and trying to talk to girls feels like the most important and dramatic thing ever when you’re in your late teens and early 20s, as well as how ridiculous all the drama seems once you’re a little bit removed from it, whether it’s the next morning or a few years down the line. The instrumentals are incredible. Really high energy drumming and guitars grabs you from the first track and doesn’t really let you go until “Riot Van.” I’d list some of my favorite tracks from this part but I‘d just be listing the first six tracks in order. After the halfway point the album switches between more introspective, slower tracks like “Mardy Bum” or “A Certain Romance” and higher energy tracks that match the first half of the album like “From the Ritz to the Rubble.” The album never gets boring. I was obsessed with it in highschool 10+ years ago and it’s still just as good of a listen. Easily the best Arctic Monkeys album and one of the best rock albums of this century so far. Everyone should be issued a copy when they turn 16.

The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails
May 28 2024

Really good album. Some of the lyrics approach ‘so angsty it’s cringe’ territory but imo the production more than makes up for it. Besides to be cringe is to be free.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
May 29 2024

Some interesting stuff but a little too minimalist/repetitive for me to get into. I like some of Kraftwerks later stuff and I know they’re super influential but I didn’t get much out of this one.

May 30 2024

Interesting listen but idk I can’t really get into thrash metal. Maybe I would like Metallica or Slayer better.
