Solid pop music. A review quoted on Wikipedia says, "the songs never feel insincere" and I find that one of the strong points of the album. Oracular Spectacular is delightfully sprinkled with familiar, nostalgia inducing songs, a good ease into this project while still getting exposed to new tunes.
Strikes me as kind of a reluctant coming of age album. I think in part it's due to associations with the time period, but just as much, it's focused on youth culture. Great balance of carefree and aware that, again, makes for solid pop music.
Tusk was kinda the best song on the album, which was kind of a let down
Loves the sampling, Express yourself and Fuck that Police were high points. Don't love the misogyny.
Upbeat, fun, feels very effortless and from that becomes an effortless listen. No surprises, just delight. Great little genre capsule. Would throw on for a commute any day.
Fun bright and energetic live album. Really great to sort of feel the energy he gets and gives from the crowd. Had this on while on a run, great music for it.
This is one of the first albums I think that really has suffered from the ordering. After two quick, light early genre albums, Beck's irony feels a little drawn out and dry. Am still a fan of his avant garde style and Chicano influence, but as someone who'd generally say I like Beck, was underwhelmed and a bit tired from this album. I'm giving it the 4 I think it deserves but this listen was a 3 for me.
Makes me think of Off the Air. Light, nonsensical, just pleasant.
Better and worse than I remember
I like folk music but I don't love folk music. The song in French was a delightful little shake up.
Was very excited for this album! It's a perfect live session to me. Nice following after the Bob Dylan because while I'm not extremely fond of folk, I really love the folk and blues influence on grunge. Great covers, just a fine listen.
Great listen! Once I understood what I was listening to it was nice to enjoy. I think I need more instrumental music in my day to day
Not my first or last listen. This is THE album to me. If I was talking to an alien and had to show them music this would be the first album. And then they'd be just a little disappointed with the rest, unless they had very specific taste. Great to go on a little sound journey again.
More fun pop music! I like the apparent lingering doowop vibes. Fun harmonizing.
I don't dislike it! But the best moments are when he reminds me of someone else, like the Pixies or the Cure. Dripping with insecurity in a way that reminds me of being 13.
Something really neat about this project, even though I haven't been great at keeping up, is that it can kind of pick and set a vibe for you. Would I have had the day I had if "more than a feeling" wasn't in my head?
I love Dad rock I love stadium rock this is such a fun album. Blatantly heterosexual but not aggressively so. A guy you have a great convo with in a bar and that's all. Keyboart.
Loved it!! Reminded me of the best parts of the Whom really enjoyed the big sweeping theatricality of it all. Def listening to more Electric Light Orchestra.
Giving these bad reviews is always hard. You still made an album. I haven't. You made one after being fucked over by Mick Jagger in a custody case and wrecking your vocal chords while on heroin. But yet
This was hard because it's probably one of my top listened to albums as it goes. That said, Everybody Hurts is the worst REM song and it kills the momentum on the album in a way that it never fully recovers from. My tape was slightly warped from always skipping that song. I decided to be fair and include it in the listen this time. Still sucks.
I liked all the songs, but it didn't feel like a cohesive album to me.
I haven't been big on listening to music in the vehicle because I think it's annoying. That said, you can't not play this driving around in a big old jeep. Love the trumpets, great stuff. Now *does* that cover mean what I think it does, because I'm down for it Boss.
Not one damn clue of a single word said during this entire album. GREAT for going on a run
What to say! I've listened to this album minimum like twice a year since I was 14. It's not the perfect album, I think it's a little light sometimes, but it's one of my favorite albums. Rock and Roll Suicide is a top tier track and a perfect album closer. Love a concept album, especially here, where it's all firmly on theme but really let's your thoughts run. Anyone else feel like watching Velvet Goldmine? If Bowie never did anything but this album he'd still be a hell of an entertainer.
Another solid pop album, a little slower than I wanted it to be. It's nice to get some representation for the glitter and vodka late 2000s early 10s pop.
Jack White is only just barely, barely not a good enough musician to make up for being such a goddamn weird person. Razor thin.
Gotta say, especially after hearing older Beatles, I get the hype.
Started weak and ended strong. Might have to relisten just for how much my opinion changed.
The shit
I'd rather be listening to something else
Fun and fast
Listened in a museum. Top tier museum music. Velvety and rich
