Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Beatles
As much as I love The Beatles, this is not my favourite album from them. I can understand why it's in the top 1001 - it's experimental and textured.
However, most of the songs on this one are too upbeat and commercial for me. My favourites (which are 5/5 for me) are Within You, Without You, She's Leaving Home, and A Day In The Life. The rest, I just find myself quickly irritated by.

Obviously classic, quite comforting, gives me gramophone vibes.

On The Beach
Neil Young
I love Young's unique voice and his use of the harmonica. On The Beach (the song) is a masterpiece, but I'm not fussed about the other tracks on this album.

Incredible. Impossible not to move to. Feels like the only blues I'll ever need.

Really hate this one. It's messy and discordant in a bad way. I really love Talking Heads' few classic tunes, but most of this is garbage - god I sound old. David Byrne's voice is interesting but too weird for anything more than a couple of unique tracks.

Comforting chill start with the first four songs. When things picked up, it wasn't really my bag. I wonder if this made the 1001 list because of the 'virtual band' element more than the music? I guess it does sound modern for 2001. Becomes more experimental, but I'm finding it bland. I like Latin Simone and Starshine and M1 A1.

I'm not a big fan of early Beatles. Nice to hear the blues and Motown influences but it's all a bit too upbeat and neatly packaged for me.

I loved RHCP as a 15-year-old, so I was excited to relisten. Unfortunately, I must once again scorn the taste of my teenage self - how did I not hear what I hear now?
This album is way too discordant, way too long, and some of the lyrics are just childish.
The guitar, bass, drums etc are very good but that damn singing is so grating ha.
Didn't love Suck My Kiss or Give It Away as much as I remembered. (Though I liked Under The Bridge still.)

Orton has a beautiful voice and this album is non-offensive, nostalgic, and heart-stringy. I’m not sure I’ll listen again, only because I’m not a big fan of folk or music with a big lyrical focus. Definite talent though and I don’t hear any reason why this album shouldn’t be on this list.

Audibly very interesting. Would listen to first and last tracks again for moody chill vibes. Vocals are sometimes clacky.

Talking With the Taxman About Poetry
Billy Bragg
I haven't listened to Billy Bragg before but I'm immediately charmed by the first song on this album.
I really enjoy being able to hear working class British accents in music, it feels 'real' and has great character.
The short song lengths make me feel like I'm listening to an anthology of poems.
I probably won't listen again as the genre doesn't do much for me. I can appreciate folk but it doesn't move me.

I like a few songs from TVU but this album is bit too plucky/wiry sounding for me. (Obvious beautiful exception being Pale Blue Eyes)

Though I’d heard Metronomic Underground, I’ve never really heard anything like this before. The sounds feel super unique to me and it’s really refreshing. I particularly liked Cybele’s Reverie, it was delightful. Only critique is most of the songs are a bit monotonous, I can imagine getting sick of them.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Bland country sounds and painfully whiny sometimes, though I liked some of the electric guitar (especially in The Losing End and Cowgirl in the Sand). The strings are interesting in Running Dry, and I quite like the haunting quality of the verses, but then it returns to the chorus which is quite generic. Struggled to feel moved by the “emotive” singing. Down By The River was done better by Buddy Miles and Young’s singing is BAD on that final track.
