Rio
Duran Duran
It makes a ton of sense that this album was produced by the same guy (Colin Thompson) that helped produce Bowie’s “Heroes”.
None of the songs absolutely caught me as a whole but I loved a number of the synth opening. As much as this album is called Synth-pop for its time, it far less resembles pop music today both in quality of production as well as character in the lyrics.
I will always enjoy Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf for their place in music history but aside from that, I mostly would get caught up in great opening synth tracks and then the rest of the song would kinda lose me (New Religion, Save a Prayer, The Chauffeur).

Stevie Wonder
Can totally see how this work influenced so many artists later. The clavinet and other electric keyboard work with atmospheric intros and outros remind me so much of Thundercat’s Drunk and how many tracks lead into each other.

Ella Fitzgerald
Her voice will always be one of the most clear, full, and heartfelt in the time of big band music. So many people tried to copy her but there is only one. A lot of her lyrics make a great effort at turning big feelings or problems into funny little small things and laughing off your trouble.

I wish I understood the lyrics as according to their bio this band arose out of anger at Jihadist movements in Mali.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Damn. I slept on this one aside from lots of dancing to Heads Will Roll at parties. I'm old so Fever to Tell (2003) was really my Yeah Yeah Yeahs album growing up.

Tina Turner
There's a certain kind of synth from the early 80s that is at once very playful, but also sounds silly? It's tough to take Tina seriously with this sound on the first track.
Oddly enough a lot of it seems to come from Rupert Hine as a producer I have just found out. I might be bias because I love the film Better Off Dead, which he produced a lot of the music on the soundtrack.

This album for certain has my favorite version of "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone" that I've heard from the Temptations.

Will never not love the Kinks. Probably isn't my favorite album to listen to, but certainly an influential and important one.
