Album is very top-heavy with its good tracks, like Cinnamon Girl, Round & Round, and Down By the River... but the in-between has a very strong 'old man dying folk music' aesthetic that was not compelling, despite multiple listens. Perhaps great for its era, but with how much folk and country have advanced, this album feels dated.
It is clear on first listen how and why the album was influential, especially in its era. While the band does not significantly change its sound going forward apart from vocalist, you can see the roots of the ideas for their songwriting and musical progression. It's no 'Number of the Beast', but I'll be coming back to this one.
I am not a Johnny Cash fan, but this album is wonderful. If you are commuting somewhere or working, put this on in the background and let this man take you away. I see why it is a classic, and rightfully so. No stand-out performances, but that is alright, I enjoyed listening to the entire thing.
I do not like Neil Young, but this one is good. Opening track, After the Gold Rush, Southern Man, all excellent... But the in-between is very hit-or-miss, and they missed for me. 4/5 because I want to be true to myself, but I can see why others would rate it as perfect.
Jean jacket Sadboy. Contains a bit of radio head, clapton, some wailing like Robert Plant, and a whole bunch all his own. I liked it, but it is not a happy album, making it hard to replay easily.
The most taste-dependent album I've encountered after ~120 albums recommended through this 1001 albums project. If you like reggae rock, it is good. If you don't... it is a tough listen. A few good numbers here and there but I don't see myself coming back. But perhaps not my type of sound.
I don't like michael jackson, but even I can acknowledge how good it is.
I didn't want to listen to an album today. I went on Spotify and saved the first song so I could listen at a later date. I accidentally started the track, and was completely entranced. Listened to the whole album. Masterpiece.
Some songs are *a little* bloated, and could have been trimmed. But as a huge Pink Floyd fan, it does not bother me. Apart from that, this album is flawless.
This ain't it. Half of it is just sounds.
