(What's The Story) Morning Glory
OasisAmazing fucking album. This would be in my top ten albums for the 90s and definitely my favorite of the brit pop albums. It has one banger after another. 5 stars for sure!

I hadn't listened to this album before, so it was new to me with the exception of its two huge hits (Starlight and Supermassive Black Hole.) After a couple of listens I think not only doesn't this belong on the list, but the album is just filled with cool sounding, soulless crap. There isn't much to the guitar playing or riffs. The lyrics are typical Muse overblown platitudes. I don't think I would ever listen to this again on my own although I would listen to a Muse greatest hits mix.
All time great hard rock album and definitely GnR's best. It helped bring the end to lame 80s big hair rock bands. It still holds up.
Great album to represent early 80s stripped down teen angst music. Songs by young adults for teenagers. It still holds strong today with a number of bangers, most prominently Blister in the Sun, their most popular song by far. This kind of music led to the alternative genre that exploded in the 90s.
I give it a 3.6 rounded to 4 stars. Awesome to hear Deep Purple live at their peak playing some of their greatest songs. The entire band are great musicians and they rock out on all of the tracks. I feel like they could have done a better job with the recording. Some of the tracks include fuckups like Richies guitar part at the beginning of Smoke on the Water and the solo for Highway Star. Overall a great live album and worth a listen. I'm not sure if it would be in my top 1001 though.
I gave it a 3.8 round to 4 stars. Let's start out with the two all time classic songs, Immigrant Song and Since I've Been Loving You. Two absolute bangers in the crazy rocking Norse Myth song and a slow driving bluesy classic. The rest of the album has more folk and Celtic influenced songs. Overall its different than LZ 1,2 & 4, but that can be a good thing if you want something different. Definitely should be in my regular rotation.
Amazing fucking album. This would be in my top ten albums for the 90s and definitely my favorite of the brit pop albums. It has one banger after another. 5 stars for sure!
2.4 This album features decent singing and song writing. But there is no great hit song that is very rememberable. Decent easy listening but this album should be nowhere near an all time list.
This is an easy 5 for me. It's one of my all time favorites and easily one of the best albums of the 80s. It has one great song after another. Could be U2s best album as well (Achtung Baby is my other favorite).
I'd give this a 3.4. I generally love Clapton and this is clearly a great band that can rock the blues hard. But most of these songs don't compare to most of the material released by Cream and Derek and the Dominoes within the next 5 years or so. It's definitely worth a listen because of its breakthrough status for EC.
I'd give this a 3. I love the jangly guitars on most of the songs. It represents that slacker era in the early 90s that contradicted the harder darker grunge sound also emerging at the time. There are two alt rock classics in the title track and the Mrs Robinson remake. The rest of the album has a few highlights but it mostly forgettable.
I give it 3.7 rounded to 4 stars. I really enjoyed this album after listening to it a few times. Highlights were F Me Pumps and Stronger than Me. I love the modern jazzy feel she brings to all her work. I'll definitely include this album in my rotation in the future.
I'd give this a 3.2. Hard to listen all the way through the first time, this album grew on me after a second go round. It's hard driving throughout. My favorite songs were Communist Eyes, Media Blitz, and The Other Newest One. The driving guitar riffs are the best thing about it musically. The bass reminds me of the Minutemen.
I give this 3.4 rounded to 3 stars. I love Bowie but this was not close to his best despite many reviewers loving the Berlin trilogy. The first half was good and I really enjoyed Sound and Vision and Be My Wife. The second side was full blown arty electronic music mostly without vocals. While it was interesting, it's not something I'd go back to over and over like some of Bowie's classic albums.
Kind of a weak start with We Don't Care, but it quickly gets better. All Falls Down, I'll Fly Away and Jesus Walks are all great tunes. I love the mix of hip hop sampling and gospel in a few of the Jesus themed songs. It really is a great first album for Kanye and he quickly establishes himself as the master of selecting great samples from pop music history. The "college degree is worthless" shtick is funny at first but gets annoying after awhile. I guess that's what makes this a concept album for Kanye.
4.6 One of the best folk rock albums of the 70s. Love how their voices harmonize together.
3.6 rounded to 4 Very listenable dance music including the cross over hit Praise You.
3.6 I had to give this album a few listens to start to really appreciate it. You can hear the beginnings of industrial music mixed with French sounding music clips. Very interesting once you get into it fully.
2.4 This album had a few classic Dylan songs such as Subterranean Homesick Blues, Maggie's Farm and Mr. Tambourine Man. Those tunes were good. Much of the rest of the album was repetitive and whiney. I don't think I would go back and listen to that album as a whole.
Yes Tori Amos is a good lyricist and piano player. Personally I just can't get into this music too much.
I have no idea why I was supposed to listen to this before i die. This was extremely bland and mediocre. He made better music before and after this album. Fail.
Great first album for Oasis. Includes the classic single Live Forever. Rocks all the way through.
Absolutely incredible album that was one of the defining statements of early hard alternative rock. The singles "Stop" and "Been Caught Stealing" were radio staples. But the album is much deeper than that. Clearly a defining moment in the movement from hair metal to grungy alt rock.
Another classic album of the early alternative rock era. One of the first rap rock combos to get significant air play. Also check out the classic video for the big single on the album, Epic. An all time classic video that helped propel Faith No More to stardom.
Very good album with a lot of catchy radio friendly synth music. Worth a few spins, but i also find the album to be a little too poppy to give it all 5 stars. Let's settle for a strong 4.
I had never heard of Jorge Ben Jor before, so it didn't know what to expect. Basically, this release doesn't disappoint. It has a lot of energy and fun. Not sure what the songs are about but it doesn't matter since you just want to get up and dance
This just seemed like a ho hum mediocre album to me. Probably should get a 3 to be right down the middle.
Santana was a staple of classic rock radio in the 70s and 80s and this album had some of his greatest classics. Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman are incredible tracks that would be on any Sanata greatest hits collection. This album basically grabs you with the raw energy of the first track and doesn't let go til the end. All time classic rock release.
I love the Stones, so i certainly don't mind revisiting classic albums like Aftermath. Under My Thumb and Paint It Black are the all time great singles from the album. I'm not sure why the 1001 albums collection would include this album though since all their albums from Let It Bleed to Exile are far better pieces of work overall. I'll give it a strong 4.
Smooth, beautiful, but never too interesting
Very cool selection. It's not among the best of the grunge era, but it definitely pushes the slacker mentality. Love it's influence on future work but in itself it gets a 3
Wow, I'm glad this album came up. This was one of my all time favorites prog rock albums. I bought this CD at a second hand store some time in the mid 80s. This album grabs you from the first chords of Yours is no Disgrace. Starship Troupers is another classic. All Good People is a song that was played constantly on classic rock radio in the 70s and 80s. This great album deserves a 5!
I really haven't had much exposure to Portishead before. I did enjoy parts of this album. It's sort of interesting but kind of annoying too. I'll settle for a 3 since it will at least inspire me to listen to more of this band.
Bitter Sweet Symphony is the all time classic, but i was presently surprised by the rest of the album. After the first track, the album took us into the early 90s and 70s way back machine. This is definitely worthy of the 1001 list and gets a 4
I had never heard of Laibach before and wasn't sure what to expect from this album. I assume this stuff is partly parody and made to be fun. It's wild and sounds like a cross between the Scorpions and a Nazi march.
One of my favorite indy albums of the 2000s. Maps is an all time classic.
I would say this is a very good but not great blusey rock album. It does have the all time clasic Piece of my Heart and a great version of Summertime. Much of the rest of the album is fun but not exceptional.
One of the greatest albums of all time, period. Gimme Shelter and Tou Can't Always Get What You Want are the all time classics, but there is so much more. The country version of Honkey Tonk Women plus Midnight Rambler and You Got the Silver just put this over the top. It's not just a 5, but also one of my top 50 albums of all time. Maybe it's the Stones' greatest. Prove me wrong!
I do love listening to the White Spripes best songs in a mix. I really struggle with listening to their early albums including this one. One problem is just how it sounds. They go for the lo-fi indy sound, which is OK, but the lack of bass and mediocre drum playing makes this sound grating to my ears. I really wish Jack had made those early albums feel and sound better.
Not sure why this is here since it's not one of the great Beatles members' solo albums. It does have Maybe I'm Amazed which could be the best McCartney post Beatles song. Much of the rest of the album sounds like slightly polished demo quality songs.
Holy crap this is an all time great album fuck off if you don't like it!
This is an interesting album but doesn't exist in the realm of Lola or other earlier Kinks albums. Who the hell makes this list? Fuck off douches!
