Horses by Patti Smith

For me, Patti Smith is one of those artists that really grows on you the more you listen, and that has defninitely been the case for me over the last couple of years. Have always been a fan of Gloria and some of the more popular songs that came in later albums, but lost interest with some of her lesser known tracks. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this album - she has a very unique voice and all her songs have a pretty distinctive (raw?) feel in this album. Gloria takes the cake but also a big fan of Redondo beach and Free money. Fav song: Gloria

Abraxas by Santana
Jan 11 2025

Pretty spoony one, undeniably a great album, maybe I wasn't in quite the right mood for this to hit as well as it could have

The White Album by Beatles
Jan 12 2025

Great album, Some absolute corkers in this one, some pretty spoony ones also

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jan 13 2025

Some of the best Isley brother tunes on here, great album very funky

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Jan 14 2025

Strong start to the album, first 4 or 5 songs were incredible hip hop classics (peter piper, its tricky, walk this way), sort of lost steam towards the end of the album, in my (controversial?) opinion they got a bit repetitive

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Jan 15 2025

Some very powerful songs, I like the vocals and the strings - some tracks perhaps a bit too dramatic for my taste, will definitely re-listen to this album.

Jan 16 2025

I have some 90s electronic / techno albums on vinyl and they tend to either be very repetitive or have tracks with large chunks of uninspiring drum loops, so I went in to this album, saw how long some of the tracks were and had similar expectations. Don't get me wrong there was still a lot of repetition (Rowla, Air Towel for example) but that is the genre, and the tracks on this album just had a lot more going on and were more complex, with some interesting vocals and layers(?) that kept me just about interested throughout. Pretty enjoyable and listen-to-able as background music as I work. Hard album for me to decide a rating for, sort of like watching an athlete in a sport you don't care about, you can still admire the talent - I think this album is an excellent example of the 90s techno/electro genre but I don't often find myself in the mood for it. If I was to rate this album in the genre that it's in(?) I'd probably give it 4 or 5 stars, Fav song: Pearl's Girl

Imagine by John Lennon
Jan 17 2025

Not a huge listener of Lennon's individual music, this album was a mixed bag for me, starting off strong with Imagine and Crippled inside which are both great songs, I found most of the tracks in the middle to be sort of unremarkable, not bad by any means but slightly forgettable to me personally. I was woken up again by How do you sleep and Oh Yoko, both of which I actually enjoyed very much. Overall pretty mediocre album with a few gems. Fav song: Imagine

Stankonia by OutKast
Jan 18 2025

This album kinda bangs, it's weird, it has skits, it has crazy bleepy bloopy backing music at times, it has sound effects and guitar riffs and orchestral sounds and most notably it has wacky lyrics throughout. The start of the album caught my attention right away, I like the transition from the nonsensey Intro to Gasoline Dreams, it comes in hard. Ms Jackson is a classic, spaghetti junction, a track I hadn't heard before, was great and B.O.B is crazy and energetic. Some of the songs that followed lost me a little bit, they weren't terrible but they didn't grab my attention like the first half of the album. Humble Mumble was another banger I hadn't heard before, probably my 2nd favourite song on the album. The album finishes with Stankonia which was probably my least favourite song on the album, maybe I'm missing something but I just didn't get it. Not every song is a masterpiece, but they are all very unique tracks that give this album a lot of personality, and exceeded my expectations. Some songs are 2/5 and some are 4+/5. Would give this album a 3.5/5 if possible. Fav song: Ms Jackson

Jan 19 2025

Can't quite put my finger on who the singer sounds like, maybe it reminds of me Peter Gabriel? or some old Phil Collins? Big fan of the start of the album, the first two tracks had some nice woodwindage, some of the songs that follow are a bit repetitive for my taste but there is only 6 tracks so I'll let em off. I did wonder what the name was about when I first saw this album, and listening to the John Barleycorn song I understand it to be about the cycle of crops for alcohol (right?), sort of made me feel like I was doing GCSE english again, would've been cooler if we just had beef with a guy called john. Most songs I'd give a 3 or a 4 out of 5, overall giving it a harsh 3 Fav song: Glad

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
Jan 20 2025

I get the impression this was a product of lots of drugs in the 60s, and I think you'd need an equal amount of drugs to enjoy most of the songs on this album. This is the music equivalent of that bloke who put a urinal in an art gallery and people loved it - I get that it's supposed to be psychadelic and trippy and all over the place but it does make you wonder if the whole thing was a big satirical joke. Some of the more coherent songs like Do You Follow Me I enjoyed and I am glad to have listened to the album even if it wasn't the most enjoyable experience for me personally. Fav song: Do You Follow Me

Jan 21 2025

yeaaaa boiiiiiiiiiiiiii As the book says "Chuck D. conjured up the sample at home: My mother said, what the fuck are you doing? Is there a kettle in that record?" - the samples in this album are bonkers and I actually like the songs a lot more than I thought I would. I probably need to re-listen to this album and pay attention to the lyrics to get the politics and deeper meanings, but some of the intros are mega, oiboi is not even slightly cool at all, furthermore big fan of Night of the Living Baseheads - Here it is BAM and you say godDAMN, this is the dopejam B) For me, the sampling and rapping was right on the limit of being too much Fav song: Night of the Living Baseheads

Movies by Holger Czukay
Jan 22 2025

Pretty unique album, I like the mix of samples used - pretty wacky stuff. Nice amount of avant-gardeness for me, lots of crazy plinky plonky sounds had me foot tapping along - nice one Holger. I think if this album was any longer it would get a bit tedious. Gonna give him a harsh 3 overall, would probably give cool in the pool a 4. let us get hot on the dancing spot Fav song: Cool in the Pool ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Jan 23 2025

My intial impression of this album was pretty critical, working away in a quiet office I made it as far as 'From Disco To Disco' before I switched it off. Very repetitive and largely uninspiring. However. This evening I found myself with absolutely nothing to do except housework and I thought I'd stomach the rest of the album, it's also important to mention that over the weekend I got myself a new coffee machine and have since been uber-caffeinated. Now don't get me wrong I think From: Disco To: Disco is probably the stupidest song I've ever heard, I sort of hate that I love it, but it absolutely banged this evening, I've just been bouncing around doing the dishes going DISCOTODISCO DISCOTODISCO DISCOTODISCO FROMDISCOTODISCO FROMDISCOTODISCO I couldn't tell you a single word in the song Jacques You Body, it's total nonsense, but that's the MotM for me, shanktgshanktshanklllmshank tshankllmshank m-m-mshank baddenadays d-baddeny day ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Slipknot by Slipknot
Jan 24 2025

crikey. I found this album pretty fatiguing after the first couple of songs. In small doses the songs are pretty good and I will say the drums are quite incredible, the start of Eyeless is very DnB-esque. But just sitting at home trying to work this was a hard listen. Maybe need to relisten when playing doom or summin. Fav song: Wait and bleed?

British Steel by Judas Priest
Jan 25 2025

Not a huge amount to say about this one, some pretty good tracks on here although did struggle to keep my attention all the way through though as lots of the songs seemed to blur into one. Fav song: Breaking the law

Horses by Patti Smith
Jan 26 2025

For me, Patti Smith is one of those artists that really grows on you the more you listen, and that has defninitely been the case for me over the last couple of years. Have always been a fan of Gloria and some of the more popular songs that came in later albums, but lost interest with some of her lesser known tracks. Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Jan 27 2025

Very enjoyable album ๐Ÿ™‚ Not a huge amount to say, have a feeling this album would grow on me after a few more listens. Would give it a 3.5 if possible, some songs were very good, most were good. Fav song: Son of a Preacher Man

Jan 28 2025

Big Bob Dylan fan, not a huge listener of his early songs though so this album was a nice / new-ish experience for me. The songs on this album were all equally pretty good, although nothing really stood out as exceptionally good nor bad either way. It all just sort of passed me by. Should probably relisten. Fav song: Mr Tambourine Man?

So Much For The City by The Thrills
Jan 29 2025

A pretty good album in my opinion, albeit pretty unremarkable. Probably deserves a second listen as the songs did tend to blur into one when I had this on whilst working. Would really give it a 3.5 if possible. All the songs were pretty good, maybe slightly repetitive lyrics in some. Fav song: say it ain't so.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Jan 30 2025

Some pretty funky songs, some pretty spoony Overall not super inspiring

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers
Jan 31 2025

Very familiar with the popular tracks on this album, but never sat and listened to the whole thing before, it was great! Love the stranglers, unique vocals, great basslines and wacky organ(?) business. Having Having around, Get a Grip and Peaches one after the other is mega, although those are easily the 3 best songs. Fav song: Peaches

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Feb 01 2025

Great album! Like quite a few Simon and Garfunkel tunes but never listened to this album, the bit in the middle with the old people nattering is weird?? Dunno what that's all about - if it even has any deeper meaning? Nothing really stood out for me a huge amount, all the tracks were just pretty good :) Fav song: at the zoo

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
Feb 02 2025

Honestly, weird. Just didn't do it for me. Some songs were actually quite unenjoyable for me, some weren't too bad. Not in a hurry to re-listen. Fav song: Devil without a cause?

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Feb 03 2025

Not sure if I was just listening to some mega extended / remastered version of this album but it seemed to go on forever. There are some exceptional songs sprinkled in here, but I think it was mostly pretty unexciting. If this album was trimmed down to like 10 songs it would probably get a 4 or even a 5/5. Fav song: My Sweet Lord

Feb 04 2025

Quite like the Smiths but only ever listened to their popular songs that everyone knows, had sort of assumed all their other music was dreary and miserable like the stereotypes I've heard, so when I saw that today's album was a Smiths album I wasn't familiar with I thought that's what I was in for, but I was very pleasantly surprised ๐Ÿ˜Š. Rush and a Push is a great start to the album, also enjoyed Girlfriend in a coma. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me had kind of a weirdly long intro and I wish there was more of the guitar you hear creep in right at the end? where was he Fav song: Rush and a Push

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Feb 05 2025

Pretty good album, lots of the songs are "almost - bangers" but very few songs I actually remembered or cared about after listening to the album, maybe I just need to give it another listen.

Timeless by Goldie
Feb 06 2025

90s Drum and Bass, pretty good - not the best I've ever heard in the genre but certainly not the worst. Gotta be in the right mood / doing the right activity for this to be listenable.

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Feb 07 2025

Pretty enjoyable album, powerful vocals. Would have guessed this album came out much later than the 60s! Fav song: I Love Your Lovin Ways

Diamond Life by Sade
Feb 08 2025

Fantastic album, one of my fave vinyls to put on in the background, the whole album is just cooL. This album sounds so good on good speakers / a good pair of headphones - Sade has a powerful voice and the instruments are great throughout, love the sax ๐Ÿ˜Ž Fav song gotta be smooth operator (cherry pie runner up)

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Feb 09 2025

Big talking heads fan, this is another album I had and listened to on vinyl. It's a weird album, like all other talking heads albums I've listened to they have like 1 or 2 of their most popular songs sprinkled in the album, and then the rest of the album is made up of pretty wacky tracks, but they're all super unique. I'd give most of the songs on this album a 3 or 4 out of 5. Gonna give it a very generous 4 overall Fav song: Once in a Lifetime

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Feb 10 2025

This is my definition of brown rock, guitar chords and words that rhyme - pretty inoffensive stuff on the ears. Not bad by any means but just hard to feel any connection to in my opinion. Fav song: Lonesome Day?

Moondance by Van Morrison
Feb 11 2025

The start of the album is great, the first couple of songs are excellent, the next few songs sort of lost me a little bit, and then the final song (Glad tidings) brought me back with the lalalalas ๐Ÿ˜Ž. Was a great background-noise-y album to have on as I worked, would definitely relisten. Fav song: Moondance

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Feb 12 2025

Great album, listened to this album a few times before, obviously girl from ipanema is a classic and Desafinado is another one I'm very familiar with, although perhaps not as good (in my opinion) as the Desafinado on Getz' Jazz Samba album ๐Ÿ’ƒ Fav song: The Girl From Ipanema

Feb 13 2025

Pretty good, surprisingly smooth to listen to (?) Although none of the songs here really spoke to me, they all just sort of smooshed together. Maybe I'll relisten when I'm more in the mood for mister pac. Fav song: Dear Mama

Is This It by The Strokes
Feb 14 2025

Great album, I think the later albums have the best strokes songs, but the songs here are all pretty consistently good throughout ๐Ÿ‘ Fav song: Last Nite (/Trying your luck)

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 15 2025

Stonker of an album, one of my faves and everyone elses too by the looks of it! It makes sense that this album is the top rated of all 1001, it's just great music and I think it appeals to any person of any age. Every song is a banger, there's no filler and with all the crazy stuff happening when they made this album, I think it came out exceptionally well. Fav song: Dreams

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Feb 16 2025

Not a huge amount to say, classic britpop imo, pretty fun? to listen to? Would give it a 3.5 if I could, 3 is a bit harsh perhaps Fav song: Alright

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Feb 17 2025

Not a bad album by any means, very easy-listenable, maybe not my favourite Paul Simon tracks, although me and Julio is a banger ๐Ÿ˜Ž Fav song: Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard

Feb 18 2025

Good album, aware that it was popular and famous but only ever really listened to 21st century schizoid man before, would give it a 3.5 stars really. Kinda crazy that this is from the sixties Fav song: 21st Century Schizoid man

Lazer Guided Melodies by Spiritualized
Feb 19 2025

Eeesh. Pretty weird. Actually kinda hard to listen to for me, just too abstract :/ Fav song: Shine A Light

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
Feb 20 2025

Immediately from track 1 its a genuinely challenging album to listen to. It's just not for me, sorry folks. I was itching to listen different music the whole time. Fav song: Swan Lake?? Socialist ?maybe

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Feb 22 2025

Lovee this album, took me a very long time to appreciate any Radiohead songs, if you'd ask me to review this album as a teenager I probably would've given it a 2. Now, it's some of my favourite music: weird fishes and Jigsaw falling into place are just excpetional. Fav song: Jigsaw falling into place

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Feb 23 2025

Couple of good songs in here - kicks, I'm not your stepping stone and there she goes probably my faves. Some of the rest of the album is pretty forgettable imo
