Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Jan 19 2025

5/5 - Paul's Boutique remains to this day a timeless classic hip hop record. After the success of the extremely commercial hit that was 1986's Licensed To Ill the Beastie Boys cemented themselves as the best in the game with their next record which was 1989's Paul's Boutique. The sampling is insane and way ahead of it's time. When you have that and the counter punch lyricism from Mike D and Ad Rock you know you have something special on your hands. Or should as say as cool as lemonade!

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Jan 20 2025

4.5/5 - This is a sad and gloomy record that showcases brilliantly the poet that Leonard Cohen was. Leonard was 82 years old and going through various health problems but you couldn't tell the way his voice transcends here. He leaves everything out for the listener to just fully embrace. It's one that you want to throw on the record player and listen to on headphones. I'm not sure if I would continually come back to this one on heavy rotation but there's no denying this was one of his strongest efforts in a stacked back catalog. Rest in peace.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Jan 21 2025

4/5 This is a well crafted record here by the Band. I feel like this is music dads would love but I don't think you can go wrong at all putting this on your turntable and cranking the volume up loud. I enjoyed this on first listen and will certainly be revisiting it. Classic stuff here ladies and gentlemen.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Jan 23 2025

This music bores me like no other but if you're a jazz enthusiast you will appreciate that there's over an hour of classical piano jazz music on this record so there's that

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Jan 24 2025

White guy here reporting in with a hip hop review. Kendrick Lamar shows us with this record why he is the best in game for the 2010s. An innovative masterpiece here that draws many different music influences including funk and jazz.

Kid A by Radiohead
Jan 25 2025

My personal favorite Radiohead record. "How To Disappear Completely" is probably my favorite Radiohead song ever. Kid A will go down as one of the best records of the 00s era.

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Jan 26 2025

It's something to look back at Fishbone and see how they influenced the third wave ska movement in the 90s. Their second record "Truth And Soul" is a solid entry in their catalog for a band that did well in being socially conscious.

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Jan 29 2025

The first two songs are straight heaters but then when you get into the third track "Laughing" you get into some free jazz nonsense that is off-putting. "Street Waves" gets things back on track and offers some sweet guitar licks. "Life Stinks" features the record's most unhinged moments that's for sure. "Over My Head" is an absolute snoozer of a song. The worst song off this record with "Sentimental Journey" not too far behind. That song absolutely sucks. By the time I got to the closer "Humor Me" I was already checked out with this album.

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Jan 30 2025

This album by Peter Gabriel sounds way ahead of it's time. It dabbles in art rock, experimental, and post punk which definitely captured my attention. I can imagine hearing these songs live in the early 80s was pretty wild.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Feb 04 2025

I understand Nick Drake was a legend in his time but this one didn't do anything for me upon first listen. I found myself becoming bored with it pretty quickly.
