Dusty In Memphis
Dusty SpringfieldA timeless classic.
A timeless classic.
One of the best singer-songwriters ever. Several of the songs presented here are so amazing that they have been covered by some of the biggest names in music
This is almost a defining album of the era, and while it is not necessary to my taste, I do recognize the cultural significance. It is definitely a must hear, even if it won't be added to my regular rotation.
While this album has some songs that are absolute bangers, there are several songs that are middle of the road at best. The songs that bring attention to social issues I do like, but some of the others are meh.
This is the first album on the list that I absolutely do not understand why it is here. There is little original about the music itself, they either sound like someone just got a drum machine and hit the pre-recorded beats or they are samples. Have sings with almost no inflection of emotion, which make the songs sound meaningless, even when some of the lyrics are poignan.
If you do not know what soul is, this is definitely a defining album. Every song sang not only beautifully but with emotion. You don't just hear this album, you FEEL it.
While I am not a fan of the screaming vocal style of the album, I absolutely respect the quality of the actual music. The driving drumming and exciting guitars make this an album worth listening to, I truly wish there was more of the singers actual voice.
This is the 2nd album this week that I am questioning why it is on the list. It isn't innovative, it isn't poignant and quite frankly it isn't good. The songs are mostly nonsensical, and goofy. I think there are much better artist to represent the genre in this time frame. Is the album fun yes, is it a MUST LISTEN? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Whimsical and fun these popular songs using a Hammond Organ instead of vocals emphasize the musical talents of the band.
This album is the definition of soul, while laying the bricks in the foundation of Funk.
I came here to find new music and rediscover old favorites. While it has been a mixed bag, this is the first album I couldn't sit and listen to, it sounds like you are stuck in someone's fever dream or the racing mind of Jessie Pinkman on ice. Definitely not a must hear album. I came back to it multiple times but I couldn't take the assault on my ears.
As I was listening to this album my partner walks in and asks "Are you on hold? " While Girl From Ipanema is a classic, much of the album does feel like it should be interrupted by a digital voice telling me that my call is important and to please stay on the line. After the anxiety inducing album from yesterday (New Forms) this was actually very welcoming.
For me this campy, gitchy version of the Beatles is middle of the road when listening with a totally sober mindset and ear. It does get better when properly medicated (THC). I definitely understand why many believe (true or not) that there was innuendo of drugs throughout the album.
Odd this is the suggestion I get on the first day after Ozzy announces a Black Sabbath reunion/farewell tour. I grew up with access to all the music, I got my first record player when I was 5, Black Sabbath was a band I never gave a chance because of the name. In my mind they would be something else. I realized later that I had heard many Balck Sabbath songs throughout my life growing up, but didn't realize the artist did those songs I heard on the radio and in movies. Paranoid is an absolutely FANTASTIC album (and is one I had access to when I was younger, that I regret not listening to throughout the years.
If you have to listen to U2 this is the album. The first half of the album makes me forget ai don't really like U2 the second half reminds me. I do appreciate the actual music the Edge is an innovative guitarist. I am personally not a huge fan of Bono's voice.
If you have synesthesia that causes you to feel sound AVOID THIS ALBUM. The purposful feedback screeching, the having every song recorded to sound like your speakers were damaged by dry rot and the parts that sound like someone is using a car horn as an instrument, make this album painful to listen to. Their reputation far exceeds their talent!
This is an band I had judged for decades by its album covers, and their name. King Crimson sounds like a band that should be playing N'Orlean's style jazz, not a 6 man Prog Rock band from Europe, but here we are. While the the album definitely jazz inspired the first song 21st Century Schizoid Man sounds like a rock band was playing at Mardi Gras. And I was pleasantly surprised at how well these genre can meld
Another artist I had heard the name but knew nothing about, this was quite the pleasant mix of jazz and comedy. I did know the Red Sovine version of Fantom 309 (my dad played a lot of Red Sovine). Very fun album.
While I do not understand the appeal of the lo-fi recording methods, to me it just sounds like the speakers albums like this are played on are damaged I don't hate this album. The musical talents of the band does still shine through. While I don't hate it I also don't love it, and do not understand how this album that contains a total of 4 original songs was ground breaking, or a must hear.
I absolutely love this album, if you want to know Stevie Wonder as a musician, this is a good start. The funky soul to the cool ballads. Every song is good.
I am quite conflicted in how to describe this album, but the weird madness and the bluesy bangers make this album a true must listen.
This band can have a Coldplay sound in one song and a Traveling Wilburys sound in the next. I listened to the 2 album version not the 4 album version my streaming service offered. So many people talking about how long the album is, probably listened to the later.
Not sure it is a must hear, but it is pleasant and an easy listen.
John Lee Hooker and guests make me happy to sing the blues. This album is a true work of art.
Interestingly eclectic. This is not an album I would listen to again, but I didn't hate it. I am definitely not the target audience.
Mix the kitchy sound of the early Beatles with the darker side of the later Beatles and you get this album by The Kinks. While the music is upbeat and fun the lyrics are mostly melancholy.
I like this album, but there are better ELO albums. Mr Blue Sky and Turn to Stone were the highlights.
This album is for club kids or a Grand Theft Auto soundtrack, it is not an album to just listen to. Definitely NOT a must hear.
An album with an identity crisis Not sure what I was expecting, but this definitely wasn't this. This album is a disjointed illogical mess. This is an album with an identity crisis with sounds of emo, rock opera, prog rock, the ass end of the surfer band music (think 80s Beach Boys not 60s Beach Boys). There were a few good songs on the album, but there is more flow in a dry creek bed than there is in this album.
An exhibition of musicianship the music was textbook blues, with what would have been considered risqué lyrics at the time the album was recorded. Love me some Muddy Waters.
I normally do not care for the lo-first recording strategy of garage bands, this band uses it in a way that doesn't cover up the talent of the musicians. No feedback for the sake of feedback. It is mostly used on the vocals, which makes me wonder if the singer has a voice, but overall not bad.
It was 80s synthpop, it was ok not a huge fan.
A decent album not sure if it is a must hear
An optimal example of the proficiency of Neil Pert, the hard hitting drums drive this album. Also Geddy Lee's best vocal display (in my opinion). This truly is the quintessential Ruush album.
Of you are looking for traditional bluegrass gospel, here it is. I am not looking for anything of the like.
Shrill vocals and loud for the sake of being loud. Definitely not a must hear.
If you are a fan of the glam rock scene this is an album for you.
Another album for thise of us with synesthesia (I feel sound) to avoid the vocals are grating, the music mediocre.
