Violent Femmes
Violent Femmes
Positvely surprised. Love the dry humor and silliness. Love how it's acoustic and punk at the same time. It feels like folk, rock n roll but also early brit-post-punk like Joy Division. Melodies are catchy and feels like you already know them. He sounds like Bob Dylan. I like that. More than halfway into the album I got a bit bored. Think it was because the songs/sound start to sound like eachother. Will listen again.

Hotel California
Eagles
Hotel California is an incredible song. Loved every single bit of it. The rest of the album surprised me. I've never gotten around to the Eagles before so I thought it would sound similar to that song. But It was way more american and pop and rock n roll, and was giving me main-character-energy doing my high paced walk. Very driving music.
The band sounds so good. His an amazing singer, and the guitarist is having the time of his life. The whole production reminded me of Fleetwood Macs "Rumours". Maybe it's the same studio? It's a very dry and saturated sound, almost cliché sounding.
Loved the second and third track as well. From there it got a bit bland, but I liked the string and orchestra interludes, they were epic. Got a bit bored by the ending, except for the final son. I don't remember the name, but it got me in my feels.

Melodrama
Lorde
(listened to it twice)
This album had a slow start for me. I was a bit underwhelmed by the first song. But then it just kept getting better and better from there. It made me think of Taylor Swift a lot, especially her "Midnights" album (I love that album), and I kept thinking Jack Antonoff had something to do with it. Turns out he did. Taylor (and a lot of other simplistic pop artist) must have been inspired by this album. I like this kind of very produced, but also minimalistic pop production and songwriting. Altough sometimes it did feel a bit too stillstanding and cheasy for my taste. Especially the piano ballad parts. Maybe I'll learn to love them
But it did also feel different than the very mainstream sometimes. Her vocal sometimes gave me Kate Bush vibes with the despair and almost scream-like outbursts. And sometimes the production went out of it's way to sound noisy and disharmonic, which was kind of cool.
I disagree with the track list. At least from a promotional point of view. I know it's a taste thing, but I just didn't vibe with the flow of the songs. Would have liked another openener.
Will definitely come back to this album.

With The Beatles
Beatles
I knew most of these songs from just playing them at jams, hearing them at musicals, etc., but I've rarely listened to the originals. They are classics tho, and I like playing them. It was fun to hear them all in one "playlist". I usually just know them as "the early beatles". I was doing some chores while listening, so it didn't feel like a deep dive. But the album doesn't feel like something that needs a deep dive. It feels more like party music, vibes, rebellious, white people dancing music.
It sometimes did feel like I was listening to a white and british interpretation of some very important and historic african american music. But then again, doesn't the majority of popular western music fall into that category.
Funny to hear some of the biggest songwriters ever in their early stages.
I don't know Beatles lore that well, so would be interesting to know how important this album is compared to some of the more popular once. It's definitely not their best work imo.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen
(listened twice, was also working on my pc both times)
A lot of women being mentioned. Suzanne, Winter Lady, Sisters of Mercy, Marianne, Teachers. Interesting.
One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong was my favorite, what an incredible song, and beautiful ending to the album! Suzanne was also a banger, but I knew that. So Long, Marianne was cool as well with the girl singing in the chorus
Never listened much to Cohen tho. But I liked it. The songwriting was great and interesting. Although it didn't really hit as deep as I thought it would. But every song can't be Hallelujah I guess. I like the minimalism as well. Mostly just guitar and him. Besides the 3 songs I mentioned, I can't really differentiate the other songs from one another. They kind of just melted into eachother. And again... i got kinda bored tbh. Actually so much that I'm not giving it the highest rating. Would have given it 2,5 if I could. That doesn't mean I won't listen again. I think I'll even buy the vinyl. It just didn't grap my attention that much.
Funny to think this is almost 20 years before Hallelujah.

Harvest
Neil Young
(was cooking while listening on my bluetooth speaker)
I was glad to get some country/folk, and I've heard this album thru before, not many times, but once or twice.
Love his voice, it's so chill but also whining at the same time.
Heart Of Gold is one of my favorite songs ever. Old Man is also a classic, it gave me goosebumps and has beautiful lyrics.
Other songs I liked: Alabama, The Needle And The Damage Done, Words.
The orchestra is very cool, but also a bit odd. It kinda adds to the "western" feeling. It is very noticeable when it comes, cause the rest of the album is so dry and dusty. I think it's nice he experienced with it.
The lyrics in A Man Needs A Maid seems a bit old fashioned. Even for 1972... or is it just me?
I really am a sucker for this kind of music, and I just love his songwriting. Will give this 4 (3,5) because of the amount of bangers, not because of
the album as an entirety/concept.
Also I don't know much about Neil Young and the importance of this album. Would be nice to be enlightened.
Will soon listen again on speakers or headphones.

Funny intro song haha - "That's the law around here, you got to wear your sunglasses, so you can feel cool"
I felt the funk, for sure. Very groovy.
What a fun album - should be listened to on a sunny day. Like I did.
Very groovy, and what a bass.
I had a stank face on almost the whole time, haha. And it is stinky, that bass actually sounds like farts, especially the last song.
Not usually my kinda music, but I like how it makes me feel; happy.
I can't give it a high rating tho. Cause I just wouldn't put this on, and I don't find it super interesting. I can appreciate the good musicians, but it just doesn't make me feel that much, other than, happy. And I kinda need something more from the music I listen to.
Again I would like to know the importance of this album

Out Of The Blue
Electric Light Orchestra
(listened once, doing a walk and some work at home)
So that sounded a lot like The Beatles. I don't know how to feel about that. I've heard Mr. Blue Sky before and thought it was a beatle song I didn't know of, whereafter I was corrected. More synths and experimental instrumentals tho, like Pink Floyd.
I didn't really like it to begin with, but the further I came into the album the more I enjoyed the songs. I think I could learn to like this band.
Favorite tracks:
Sweet Talkin' Woman (such a nice intro to that song)
Starlight
Steppin' Out
Standin' in the Rain
Mr. Blue Sky
Sweet is the night
The musicians and production quality is clearly very good. It also gave me musical-vibes. Like the songs could fit so well into a musical. But maybe that is just my love for Across The Universe-musical.
Anyways, I'll give it two stars for now. And I will probably come back to see if I enjoy it more the second time around.

The Last Of The True Believers
Nanci Griffith
Easy listen - I liked it very much :)
Giving me Dolly vibes.
The slide, the banjo, the fiddle, the whiskers and that smokey southern voice is just so pleasant, and makes me feel like I'm actually on a train pacing through America. I'm a sucker for country pop, it just sounds so good.
Very nice and intelligent pop songwriting. I love that the melodies and lyrics in the choruses are so hooky, but also not trying to hard. It sounds so effortless. As a songwriter I think it's one of the most difficult things to do. Writing simple yet intriguing songs. It feels more like it's written by a team, than by one person (don't know it for a fact). A feeling I mostly dislike, but here it feels good. Like they had a good time writing.
Favorite tracks:
The Last Of The True Believers
Love At The Five & Dime
Banks Of The Pontchartrain
Lookin' For The Time
Going gone
The Wing & The Wheel
Eager to listen to her other stuff
Giving it 4 for the good songs and the vibes. Not 5 because, yes, it is mildly too simple. Not that I don't like that. Like it does inspire me, but it doesn't surprise me at any times. And I don't feel like the album is exploring anything new. Unless it is some of the first of it's kind.

Waylon Jennings
(listened twice)
Yay more country!
I enjoyed this album and I liked his singing and his attitude. The band sounds nice as well.
I have a hard time remembering the songs. I often feel that way about more bluesy music. It tends to feel more like background music for me.
The last song gave me goosbumps, and felt relatable.
Again, I have a hard time remembering the album, but I had a good time when listening. I'll give it 3.

Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden
(this is actually on day 14 since I didn't have time the other day)
Found time to listen to this on a hectic walk to the train station, and an even more hectic train ride. It suited it perfectly. Felt like I was in an Anime.
Kept thinking of the scene in Stranger Things when that outcast kid is battling aliens with his guitar skills haha
But I didn't really "listen listen". It never really grapped my attention.
It's very fast and melodic, and it gets my blood rushing.
I don't know much about Iron Maiden, wish I did.
I don't know what to give it. It's not really my type of music. At least for now.
Giving it 2, sorry.

Mask
Bauhaus
(listened while cooking)
Fish cakes, FISH CAKES!
That made me laugh a lot.
This was very interesting, and fun, and dystopian. Is this goth rock? Sometimes made me think of Joy Division and The Cure. Are they british? German Name. Funny name. Build house. Feels very british and industrial.
Some songs were very dark and drone like, made me think of swans, bowie, syd barret. Also Nine Inch Nails must have been inspired by this.
And then suddenly some songs felt like pop music and progressions. Kind of a relief. A strange combination.
Hyper dynamic production. Sometimes there were super loud sounds that completely sprung out and sounded like it was coming from somewhere else. Don't really know what I thought about it. Very out of place, and scary. But definitely made me feel something.
I was actually positively surprised by this album. I can't differentiate any of the songs from each other, and it's kinda one big mess in my head. But I was intrigued and it kept me interested through out most of the album. I enjoyed it.

Coldplay
4,5
(i've listened 4 times now, I really like this)
I've been looking forward to this. Coldplay have been on my listen-to-list for ages. A controversial band, loved and hated. I know the hits: Viva, paradise, yellow, sky full of stars, but have never gotten around to listen thoroughly and make my own opinion. Although I have a lot of respect for Chris Martin as a human being, pop-cultural influencer and songwriter.
So much radiohead inspiration here, that's cool. But still in a pop setting. It's more like sob rock. Like doesn't "High Speed" and "We Never Change" sound so much like "Subterranean Homesick Alien"?
And isn't that song a homage to Bob Dylan's "Sub. Homesick Blues"?
So it goes Bob Dylan -> Radiohead -> Coldplay
I wonder who Bob was inspired by for that song. And when i'll make my entré onto that list haha.
It's very pop, but just enough of the alternative to call it something else. I also love how it's holding back from going "all-in" on full pop. Like they are probably very young here and are very aware about not being too mainstream at this point haha.
Love the simple rockband setting. Like it's just drums, bass, electric, acoustic and his vocals. Oh, and the backingvocals are so good.
I think this album is very influential. It feels like this album has shaped so much pop rock in the 21st century, especially in the 2000's: Maroon 5, The Script, The Fray, Snow Patrol and all that sobby raspy male voice stuff. It's almost perfect that it was released in the year 2000.
Love the coverart.
And how the title track is only 40 seconds
And that there is a ghost track. Love stuff like that.
I'm giving it 5 (would give it 4,5), for grapping my attention so much, and because I feel like I will listen to this a lot.
Favorite tracks:
Don't Panic
Sparks
Yellow
High Speed
We Never Change
Fun fact:
Coldplay is number 6 most streamed the last 28 days right now. Just checked. I had no idea that they still are this big. That's crazy.

(Listened twice)
What a curious album.
I almost wish I hadn't read the description of the album first. I would have been so weirded out.
But I actually really like this dogma of making a fake film score.
I was in an antiques thrift shop while listening, and it was the perfect setting. Horror, folklore and fairytales. It really did feel like I was in an art film.
Some of the songs were upsetting, and were either triggering stress/anxiety or sexual tension. So yea it definitely made me feel a lot. Which I really like. Don't know if I would recommend to listen while doing work related stuff. Which I did the second time haha.
Especially liked the fairytale song and the
Nick Cave song.
Giving it 4.

Sample heaven?
There's the obvious Kendrick sample, and then I think I heard a couple of others throughout the album. So yea, definitely very influential. I fucked with it. It was groovy and soulful and almost funky sometimes. I listened once while doing some selfcare routine, so not a deep dive. Will re-visit.
