Off The Wall
Michael Jackson
favorite songs were off the wall & i can’t help it. overall, not really my thing but it was not that bad. it had more of a disco-esque feel, so not really ideal for a more calmer day but i think other michael jackson albums would appeal to me more.

Stevie Wonder
super good album. my faves were “too shy to say” & “creepin’”. it almost seems ahead of its time and not like the 70s at all. very surreal and jazzy. 🩷💖

You Want It Darker
Leonard Cohen
very beautiful and poetic…it kind of reminds me of the little caterpillar in walt disney’s alice adventures in wonderland. the first song gave me chills and then the others kind of didn’t give the same energy but i still thought they were pretty great.
i feel like to listen to some of these albums you have to relate to the singer and the songs in some way to really get the message across. for me, i don’t really feel like i relate to an 82 year old man on his death bed but i still can appreciate it’s beauty. i think once the time comes i’ll probably listen to it and understand it more than i do it now but for now i’m kind of like a watchful listener.
my favorites were the title track, “leaving the table,” “traveling light,” and “it seemed the better way.”
to imagine writing and composing something like this at the age leonard was while battling cancer is astounding but not something that i can just put on and instantly relate to and feel personally, which i feel like makes or breaks music for me. but overall, probably the most poetic piece of music out there. 🖤🖤🖤

The Bends
Radiohead
really good but i think u just have to be in the right mood to listen to some of the songs. this album is best played when moody or sad so it was kind off-putting but it was still really good. my 3 all time favorites were “the bends”, “high and dry”, and “street spirit (fade out)” :) 💕

Fiona Apple
really hard to relisten to the album because i listened to it once before in such a dark time in my life. but this album is in my imaginary list of best albums of all time…like if i had to choose 3 albums this would be on there. fiona apple is just a genius and this album just proves it all. sullen girl will always be my favorite song. bless her and this album, i don’t know how i would have made it through high school without tidal.💙

it was pretty good i really liked all of the guitar licks. i was confused for a minute because a lot of the tracks sounded familiar to me and the guitar playing before i realized that was because jimi hendrix and eric clapton played the electric guitars in the album. i probably should have listened to it at like a more preferable time because i just listened to it in the shower. but it was still good, not the best i’ve heard but better than most.
my favorites were “church(pt. of someone), “old times good times,” “go back home,” and “black queen (lp)-version.” 🖤

Radiohead
really beautiful album. 🩷 but for some reason, i have a hard time listening to all of thom yorke’s songs. some of them i like, and some not so much. it is really strange. i think he is just one of those artists that you have to relisten to many times before you can fully digest and comprehend a song. i will say that i feel like i like his solo music more than his band with radiohead from what i have heard on my own time, but i would have to listen to more to really say that. to elaborate, his music is so complex and lengthy that you would have to replay it a dozen times to really know which ones you like and do not like.
thus being said, my favorites on this album were: “15 step,” “nude,” “weird fishes/arpeggi,” with “all i need” and “videotape” being my absolute favorites.
~ i think there is a high chance i will probably replay these songs if i am having an especially sad day or in really deep thought, and i think the more i listen to it, the better it will sound ~

The Isley Brothers
oh my goodness i love this album so much. this is the first album to that i’ve listened to from this website that i know i’m going to replay not just favorite it and then save it for later. i did not know whether to rate it a 5 or a 4 but i just decided on 4.5 because not every song was my favorite and non-skip-able, or a “perfect album.” but it was so so so good i even did some research on the members and i’ve added the songs to a playlist.
i found that mainly my favorite songs were those that consisted of more of a “rock” genre and less of r&b and soul. for example, i really liked “if you were there,” “sunshine (go away today),” with “what it comes down to” and “sunshine breeze, pts. 1 & 2” being my absolute golden favorites.
cannot stress enough how lovely of an album this is and if i could i would give it a 4.5. i will definitely be listening to more of their music. 💕

Back In Black
AC/DC
i really tried to like it—I did—but it just felt kind of pointless and repetitive. it felt like a random group of middle schoolers threw on some costumes, grabbed some guitars, and started playing poorly. i feel like there was way too much screeching in the songs and not enough actual singing. i think if i could hear brian’s voice more instead of all the shouting, i would like it better. what is strange to me is that i like metal and all the shouting that comes with it, but this is something else entirely. it is not metal—it is just poorly executed singing. all forms of singing, including metal, use different parts of your voice, requiring strength and effort, but this did not seem to require any exertion, and the singing lacked talent altogether. like, if you cannot sing, then please do not—or at least just play an instrument. i do not know, but i just cannot stand his voice, unfortunately.
i think some people may like this because of the energy they clearly put into it, but it just gave me anxiety. i might try to listen to it one more time to see if i change my mind, but it is just too much for me.
i did not really like any of the songs this time. i thought i liked “let me put my love into you” because of the really cool guitar riff—until he started singing. i know some people did not like that song because of the lyrics, but for me, it was entirely the singing since i actually liked the lyrics. i do like “you shook me all night long” because i can actually hear him singing instead of growling into the mic. also, side note: i do not understand the obsession with “hell” and their random song titles like “shake a leg” and “have a drink on me,” but maybe that is just me. they sound like they are trying to be edgy and punk but executing it horribly, and it just comes off weird.
overall, i do not really think 80s rock is for me—especially not this band or at least this album, since i have not heard their others. maybe some 80s rock is tolerable for me, but this just was not it. i wanted to give it 2 stars, but for now, i am keeping it at 3 because 2 just seems brutal. 💔

Power In Numbers
Jurassic 5
what in the world… another hard listen. 💔 i normally do not like hip hop, but this one especially was just not my cup of tea. i could not even listen to the whole thing—i got to about five songs before i gave up.
perhaps it is just not my mood lately, like i just do not want to listen to something like this, and i could not force myself to fully listen. i can understand how people might like it to some extent, but i just was not feeling it.
not a bad album or artist—everybody just has a different taste, and this one was not mine. ❤️

Morrissey
so…where do i start? i was not a big fan of morrissey or the smiths, but the more i listen, it kind of gets slightly better. i definitely need to listen to more of their songs to fully determine this, but it is usually just a hit or miss for me.
i think what slightly annoys me is that the lyrics never rhyme, and they kind of just tell really long stories that do not really make sense. it is less of a verse-chorus-verse-chorus-middle-eight kind of thing and more of just whatever you can make into a song.
i think i liked, in some way, every song from this album, but my favorites were “suedehead,” “treat me like a human being,” and “margaret on a guillotine.” “margaret on a guillotine” seriously gave me chills, especially the very last second of the song with the clank of the guillotine coming down.
really beautiful album, and i might update this as i keep going along this smiths-morrissey journey. i am also aware that they are controversial, so i am going to research a bit more about this and probably update my ratings afterward. 🩶

Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes
tell me why i had no idea they sang “white winter hymnal” 😭 i only knew the song from the pentatonix cover because my family and i used to play that during christmas time, but wow. i knew it was a cover, but i just never thought it was some indie early 00s song—but what do ya know.
i really underestimated this album, but robin’s voice—wowww. so freaking good. such a feel-good, going-on-a-nature-trail kind of vibe with this one.
this album kind of reminds me of middle school me, when i would play indie video games like life is strange, and they would have folk indie music in the background, like when the artist daughter played.
that being said, i liked “white winter hymnal,” “he doesn’t know why,” “heard them stirring,” and “your protector.” i will have to say, though, “ragged wood” and “tiger mountain peasant song” were just 👌
overall, i do not really know when i will listen to this again—maybe when i am feeling very adventurous or maybe in the spirit of winter. 💚

Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)
Loretta Lynn
i really do not like country, so when i heard the first song, i immediately wanted to turn it off, but thankfully, it got slightly better. ms. loretta has such a beautiful voice and vibrato, and the best way i could describe this album is like being on a beach on an island during the summer—like in the bahamas or hawaii.
this will definitely be on my list of summer songs, and i thought the lyrics were very beautiful and poetic.
i really enjoyed “tomorrow never comes” and “the shoe goes on the other foot tonight.” as for my #3 favorites, they were “there goes my everything,” “i’m living in two worlds,” and “making plans.”
maybe it is because i am a female and the soppy, poetic stuff just gets to me sometimes, or maybe because the 60s were bomb 🥴 but this brought out my inner girlhood. 🩷🎀

Kick Out The Jams (Live)
MC5
i thought this was pretty good. i love rock so much, i cannot stress how beautiful sounding it is. i do wish, though, that rob’s voice was more prominent because he has a very unique and distinct voice, but sometimes the music drowns it out.
i kind of want to listen to more by this group. i think i would really like their other songs as well. also, not sure when i would listen to this album again besides my favorites—maybe when i am in a rebellious mood.
my favorites were “kick out the jams,” “rocket reducer no. 62 - talk,” “motor city is burning,” “i want you right now,” and “starship,” with my #1 favorite being “borderline.” oh my goodness, that is such a good song. i will definitely replay that one for sure.
i am a big fan of the 60s, so that kind of made me like it more naturally, but it was a killer album. 🖤🎸
